Title: retirement quote of the day
Post by: Mr Mark on January 30, 2017, 04:00:14 AM
One of my colleagues just "took the package" being offered in the latest layoff round. He had a nice quote:

"the only opportunity you get to increase the length of your retirement is at the beginning"

That's a good one, I like it.

One I've had stuck in my mind for much of the past year:

"There are 3 types of people in the world: Those that make it happen, those that let it happen, and those that wonder what the hell happened".

Can't recall who I should attribute it to, but it's basically speaks to me about taking control of your own destiny.

I knew a soldier who was trying to get kicked out for overweight because he would get a severance package. If you just get out you get nothing.

He called it the "fat for freedom program".....

I liked it. here some more retirement quotes:
"Retirement, a time to enjoy all the things you never had time to do when you worked." - Catherine Pulsifer
"The joys of retirement can be enjoyed here and now. You can pursue your passions, live your dreams and enjoy life while you are still working." - Rand Bennett
"You get old faster when you think about retirement.” ― Toba Beta

I have a friend still working with a big house in a very high end place on the coast in Spain.

When he's there and partying with neighbors they introduce him as "this is the guy who has a job! Lol"

Work has been defined in many different ways, the most appropriate being, "I know it when I see it". ERE

I knew a guy who did the same claiming he was blacking out and not remembering a period of time during the blackout. Last I heard (25 years ago) it was working (light duty assignments, change of duty station) though he was not out yet.
