Don't go to places in war or near war. That much is obvious, other than that this list is a pure nonsense meant for readers who haven't been any further than Canada.

Off-topic: having lived 7 years in Stuttgart, Germany, I have no idea how the locals afford to rent/buy there. My rented house was 1850 euros per month..and was a steal.

Well, perhaps North Korea is not that dangerous if you stick to their rules (not that I've been there or I am interested) and probably crime rate is low and basically non-existing for the few tourists (given that you're guarded all the time). Now that doesn't mean it's a good, fun, or interesting place to go, just that you might be less likely to be in danger, according to the authors.

Also I was in Detroit three weeks ago. Enjoyed a Lion's game. Some parts were run down, but for the article in question, "20 Most Dangerous Vacation Destinations" I'd be more interested in real numbers - the number and percent of tourists killed while visiting locations.
I'm betting most of those places are fairly safe.
For Detroit, for example, the article says:

Crimes are widespread here. However, if you are eager to visit this Motor City in spite of all the threats, just be careful and make sure you enjoy all of the city’s amazing attractions.
Most dangerous according to what metrics? Sure, if you're a young male of certain races in gangs living there it may be dangerous. What percent of tourists are injured there?
Also articles that split up something like that into 20 pages to improve their ad impressions are stupid. Make it a policy not to link to them, IMO.
