Veterans Day
« on: November 11, 2016, 10:54:31 AM »
Hello MMM community. It's Veteran's Day in the United States, and Remembrance Day in Canada. I'd like to thank the veterans of these two countries for their service.

Thanks, and same to you!  I know we have a lot of veterans on this forum, along with you who are active duty still.  I work for the Navy currently and I believe in and support our troops, even when I don't always believe and support the people who send them in harm's way.

Yes, I have some family members who have served for Canada and others for the United States.  Many, many thanks to the veterans of both countries' military services!

A sincere thanks to all fellow veterans as well.

Anyone current or prior Air Force (I know it's the sissy branch)?

Be comforted, I believe the chair force still ranks a couple pegs above the USCG. ;)

Haha!! Although I never got to experience the real Air Force. I was in Special Ops and designated to an Army base my entire enlistment. I had a nice cozy front line job.

I was going to start a Remembrance Day thread but SS beat me to it  ;-)  I hope you are OK with me posting this here, SS.  (If not I will move it to its own thread).  I posted it on my journal but this will get more visitors.

I post this every year.  Traditions are important, even on the net.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Written by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae May 3 1915.

"The nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten."  Attributed to President Calvin Coolidge.

My heartfelt thanks to all veterans and service members, and their families.

The Air Force is for the smart people.  We sent our officers to the front.  They get paid more, let them take the risk.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
