not to put too fine a point on it, but maybe low-income families would be better served spending their money on things more important to improving their lives than firearms.....
I was commenting on what people *shoudl* spend their money, on, only whether or not gun ownership is financially unobtainable.  Personally, I think the vast majority* of Americans would be better off if they funded their IRAs instead of buying guns and ammo... but the same could be said about craft cocktails, premium cable packages or mani-pedis. We waste money we don't have on things we don't need on a mind-bogglingly large array stuff.

*excluding people who use guns for hunting, their jobs, etc.

I was going to buy a new AR-15 later this year, but I should probably do it before the election, because if Hillary wins (at this point, I don't think even she can screw this one up) the price of guns and ammo is going to sky rocket.
Didn't it subside after the post-Obama spike? I've seen listings recently for less than I was quoted earlier (just word of mouth, I don't watch closely).

Hillary and her regressive tax on guns. Making it unaffordable for low-income families to bear firearms.
Really? 'Round heeyah, the poorest of the poor still arm themselves to the teeth, if so inclined. >.<

The dude is a billionaire based on his businesses....
...speculate how $1BB net worth could become a few million for each grandchildren...

I read a pretty interesting analysis of Trump's NW claims over the years (and unfortunately his claims are almost all we have to go on), as well as a discussion of how Forbes, et al rank supposedly rich Americans... surprisingly, there is no documentation required, and looking at the figures he submitted for each year in succession (sometimes climbing by a billion+ a year, in a bad economy) only casts further doubt on their accuracy. Note that his only recent, public "refutation" of the claim that he's exaggerated his wealth was to call his accusers jealous men with "400-pound wives". The article gives insider estimates in the $200M range, and noted that he had to go back to his family for loans from the trust twice in his early years after squandering every dollar he had on bad investments. Additionally, what assets he does list are often wildly exaggerated - they gave an example of one of his buildings in NYC listed at $400M with a $120M lien, and a tax assessor's estimate lower than the lien value... and so on. Using conservative values gives the picture of a highly leveraged empire with huge exposure to volatile markets, which of course is what led to his bankruptcies in the past.

So, no, he's not necessarily a great businessman, and he doesn't necessarily have even a billion, or whatever he's claiming today. After all these decades of shameless self-promotion, he probably has little more than he inherited, and even after using every got-dam dirty trick to rob the people whose backs he rode on, he's probably spent close to 100% of his earnings on his embarrassingly gaudy lifestyle.

Obviously, I'm not a fan, but the financials aren't even my core reason... for me, it's that I work in foreign policy and he is so gleefully, unrepentantly ignorant and stupid about international politics that the GOP can never call itself the party of defense within my earshot, after nominating him. He didn't even have a foreign policy until his protest campaign accidentally broke double digits, at which point he hired a Senator from my state to craft a neocon's wet dream of worldwide destruction which has me dying in some godforsaken shithole because its leaders offended his fragile ego. How about "no"....

Yeah, I'm highly skeptical of his claim that he's worth "in excess of 10 BILLION DOLLARS" [emphasis Trump's]. I personally doubt he's even a member of the billionaire's club.  If he were I'd expect his annual charitable giving would be at least in the 10s-of-millions$ (<1% for a multi-billionaire) instead of effectively $0.

Given his proclivity towards debt I find his future wealth to be very facinating... one can imagine that many of his current holdings could topple if they spent just a few quarters in the red.  Places like the new Trump Hotel in DC (mentioned above). He might reinvent himself yet again as an alt-right media empire, but will debt on his current holdings drag him down?  How will the Trump Corporation weather the next recession? Where will Trump be in 2018? Will he even make the Forbes list? I'm leaning towards 'no' right now.

Ammo is still a bit more expensive than before.  Nothing to do with regulation - as Obama couldn't get enough support to pass any, even after Sandy Hook.  Mostly it's due to demand - whether from people stockpiling because they feel the next POTUS will tell "Mr. and Mrs. America, hand them over." (I mean, it has to happen sometime, right?) or if all those people that went out and bought a firearm out of that fear they would be banned are now enjoying their new hobby.  Hard to say.

Rifle prices did indeed cycle back down - Which is why there could be room for a profit early next year, if purchased in the next few weeks.

Do people ever feel suckered by this?  "Obama is going to take your guns!"  Prices spike but the guns stayed.  Now "Clinton will take you guns!"  I'm wagering guns will be just as available, just maybe more expensive.

I'm still waiting on Obama to come take our guns. I want them out of the house before the baby comes, and it's not like I can just put it on freecycle...

Ha! Poor Obama - hope and change indeed.

Guess you'd have to sell them. That's not any more difficult than listing on any other website.

It's almost like his desire to take the guns was completely fabricated!

Shit; is that why no one could find .22 ammo for the past few years?  Thanks, Bush.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
