Ok, at quick glance we have:
21 people with over 2k posts (19 if you eliminate arebelspy and russ, both admin/moderators)
87 people with at least 1k posts

compare that with
157 people that have between 500 - 1,000 posts.
270 people that have between 250 - 500 posts.
Right now anyone with 500+ posts is a 'Senior Mustachian'.  Clearly we could use a few more categories.

I'm in favor of Deborah's suggestions earlier (even though I'd be demoted back to 'Magnum' for quite a while):
Quote
Five o'clock shadow........1
Stubble.........................50
Bristles.........................100
Pencil...........................250
Handlebar.....................500
Magnum.......................1000
Senior Mustachian..........2500
Gandalf.........................5000 (something for Dragoncar to aspire to)
Gengis Khan.............10000 (only 'rebs... kind of fitting for the guy who runs around locking up threads all willy-nilly)
*also, about 40% of all members have never made a single post.  Lurkers? Bots?
edit: fixed to include Russ as moderator

no... i was just reading across columns and misread ninetyfour as a moderator, even though I knew it was Russ.   Rookie mistake.  Good thing we've got Gengis Kahn to punish correct me.

Sam Elliot sports a pretty good stache from time to time.

Super Mario liked collecting coins.

Add Yosemite Sam to that list... his 'stach had to be at least 1/3 of his total height.
Though.. come to think of it, I never was sure how tall he was.  He's smaller than the rabbit, so maybe only 9" or so?  Or is Bugs freakishly oversized?

When I looked up mustaches, Gengis Khan is evidently a type of mustache, whereas these others are men associated with a type of mustache.

Lillee mustache would be about a 1000, while the Hughes would definitely be a 5000 - even though Lillee was a more amazing player than Hughes. I think I remember a time when Lillee had the highest batting average of the Australian team and Chappell (I think it was Ian) had the best wicket score!

I've never heard of many of those random people.  I like the generic stuff like "senior mustachian" or "magnum mustache" or whatever more, so people aren't having to google Charles Finkleworthy or whatever constantly.  So I'm thinking avoid names. Thoughts?

Ah - you're there lurking! I think my previous post  was a pretty good set - they are all standard mustaches (according to what I looked up) - the Gengis Khan is an accepted variant from what I read (and I really like you being Gengis Khan!).

We should institute some kind of weighted formula that takes into account both post count and tenure.  That would reduce the incentive for dragoncar to keep mindlessly cranking out posts just to juice the stats.

wouldn't that do just the opposite?  I mean, if we're counting both tenure and # of posts, a person's standing could go down if he/she didn't post in a while.  Especially people like dragoncar, who has both a lot of posts and a long tenure on this forum (he joined in Year 1, aka 2012).
Conversely, it would help all those lurkers who joined four years ago but have made fewer than 5 posts.

Well, it would go down by a lesser extent than it would today, when ranking is based solely on post count.

I admire the sleeper cell posters who lurk under the radar but ever-so-infrequently emerge to deliver a shrewd remark, only to disappear again back under the surface.  My favorite is boognish.

Completely overhauling the ranking system would probably be too complicated, so let's just make one little tweak to eliminate post-count-credit for posters whose handle starts with "dragon" and ends with "car."

I'd rather encourage any post by dragoncar, no matter how dragoncar-ry.

My thought was to have a status for post count of 1MM called "Emperor Dragoncar."

I saw both, but dismissed the whole post as silly because of the low numbers.  Squaring probably gets too big with larger numbers though.

Um - you the fact that you had "Posts" in the left hand column and "Level" in the right? So - after 10 posts a person would be at "level 100 (or 101 [sic])"
I'm too lazy to computer what 'level' you'd be at, but I'm certain it could only reasonably be expressed to some power of 10.
EDIT:  D'uh - 4852 squared.  I've been on hold for a LONG time
EDIT2: Congratulations!  By his own system Dragoncar has reached "Level 23,541,904"  How soon til he hit's the 1 billionth level folks??

OK - so I'm in the milk-mustache category - one day to be a five o'clock shadow. I really enjoy reading the blog and catching up on all the forum chatter between posts. I am probably never going to grow a full mustache (which is OK since I'm female) - but I've gotten a lot of great ideas and insight here in the forum and from the blog/page. I'm hoping since I've found MMM in my mid-40's that with some tweaks - I will be able to retire "on-time" - meaning early 60's. I'm sure I could do better - I'm not riding a bike, my kids are involved in expensive after-school sports (about $500+ per month that would be nicer in my Betterment account), after-school care (because I'm still working and not retired), etc. Mr. MM would definitely give me a hearty face punch if ever we meet! Good thing I'm way over here on the east coast! Even though I'm only a milk-mustache - I'm really enjoying all the info and the fun everyone in the comments and forum bring to it!

Awesome... even though I got demoted, my rank now feels much more special to me.  Previously too many "senior mustachians" running around - most of whom I was like "who the crap are you? How can we all be 'seniors'?"

OK - I have looked up the names
Five o'clock shadow........1
Stubble.........................50
Bristles.........................100
Pencil...........................250
Swashbucking/ Flynn......500
Magnum.......................1000
Handlebar.....................2500
Walrus..........................5000
Gengis Khan................10000

We ended pretty close to this.

High limits so it'll be good for a few years.  Bump again in 2019.  :)

I, for one, will be adhering to the mustache levels IRL. Because dedication.

Might as well make this the place for my 2500th post.  Gotta check to see if can level-up my Mustache...

And BOOM!  Good bye Handlebar, hello Magnum!
