Looks like Telsa's board took the first steps to looking for a new CEO.  I wonder if this will change Musk's $40 billion pay package?

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-board-opened-search-ceo-011913820.html

I doubt this will change anything, unless Blackrock and Vanguard vote to get rid of him (Musk owns the highest amount of shares).  And even if he weren't the CEO, his poisonous personal brand would still be associated with the company due to his shares.  And, of course, the board is made up of his friends and family, who seems to not take their fiduciary obligation to shareholders (except one!) seriously.

Tesla, the guy who said:

“To me, the universe is simply a great machine which never came into being and never will end” and “what we call ‘soul’ or ‘spirit,’ is nothing more than the sum of the functionings of the body. When this functioning ceases, the ‘soul’ or the ‘spirit’ ceases likewise.”

should ask for his name back from the unelected CEO who is facilitating the rise of Christian Nationalism.

I am so thrilled about the unified DOGE database tracking US citizens. Does this very post qualify for inclusion, I wonder?

Over the past 100 days, DOGE teams have grabbed personal data about U.S. residents from dozens of federal databases and are reportedly merging it all into a master database at the Department of Homeland Security.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/30/opinion/musk-doge-data-ai.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Dk8.Ti4A.cmNLYVoKItqF&smid=url-share
Remember which political party said covid vaccines were a way for the federal government to track citizens? Remember states rights? Remember a small & disempowered federal government? The Republican party is pretty clearly just MAGA and whatever trump wants at this point. They caught the car on abortion and smoothly pivoted to trans people somehow. Once that's outlawed maybe they'll discover left-handed people are the reason Sparky up the street doesn't have a six figure job pressing one button a hundred times a day.

This being under homeland security is not an encouraging sign.

Button pressing is the work of the 2060s:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrIf0oYTtaI

More seriously, yes to the above.  A national database has been the dream of many Silicon Valley tech leaders since the 1990s.  I hadn't understood why there was public pushback about it.  Now I know.
Well, in that case  I guess we'll finally have a federal firearms owner database.
Right?

They're publicly saying that Musk won't be replaced.  I guess no surprise.

It seems like Musk has been pretty quiet since Tesla's last earnings call.  Maybe the protests/boycotts actually succeeded in getting him to STFU?

I won't verify personally, as I refuse to go on Xitter.  But his name has been coming up a lot less in rage-posts recently.

It certainly hit the EU sales hard. And maybe, just maybe he realized that a 400 million people government is a bit too complicated to just randomly cut in half because you dont like the name. A leap of faith, I admit, but physically not impossible.

Welp, after 2 months of incomplete info and back and forth messaging from supervisors and constant changing rumors about upcoming mass firings at all the government agencies (according to possibly legal procedures called RIFs, but dictated by DOGE), and wondering when or if the axe was going to fall on us, the rumor this week was that mass firings were about to start (next week) at many of the big government agencies, but particularly focused on gutting all the science/research agencies specifically related to ecosystems/endangered species/wildlife/plant communities/diseases/research at National Parks, etc.

Up to 85% cuts expected in all those areas. This is all in line with Project 2025 and Trump's budget requests, as well. Basically, expectation at Department of Interior was the only scientists left would be those focused on minerals and oil  (for extraction) and possibly bare bones staff related to volcano and earthquake risk and (maybe) hyrodology/flooding.

So my husband and I, anticipating he will lose his job next week and figuring we won't be able to afford dinner out for the foreseeable future, went out to dinner and got kinda drunk and generally had a pleasant night as a 'last hurrah'.  Woke up this morning to find that a California District Court put a 2-week halt on all those upcoming firings as potentially unconstitutional b/c the purpose of them is clearly to gut the agencies in question and prevent them from fulfilling their legally and congressionally mandated responsibilities.

So, back on the bubble we go again. But at least courts are standing up. It seems the last thin wafer of society preventing complete fascist tyranny.

I would never assume he's realized anything or learned a lesson.  It's not in his nature.  He learns what impacts money and power, no more and no less.

The Tesla board was about to revolt on him, which is a big deal since its mostly friends and family. He absolutely did not learn anything from the last six months. He's incapable of it. In that call where he said he was going back to Tesla at the end of the month, he said he's still keeping a foot in DOGE, all of his decisions were correct, and that everything was the fault of radical leftists. All of that bad press and baggage is going to follow him, especially since he refuses to renounce his DOGE decisions and keeps using Trump as leverage for new Starlink contracts.

All of that bad press and baggage is going to follow him, especially since he refuses to renounce his DOGE decisions and keeps using Trump as leverage for new Starlink contracts.

It's not that he's incapable of caring about consequences, it's that he generally has the power to decide for himself which consequences are worth caring about and which aren't. Which means that he can rapidly move any goalposts he wants to.

It's a huge mechanism of his success that he's able to outright reject any system of evaluation that dictates that he's wrong, because defying such dictates is exactly how he got where he is today.

Failure isn't an issue for him because it's part of his "larger process," but he's so sensitive and reactive that he will just redefine his "larger process" according to whatever metrics work for him in terms of defining success.

Ultimately, he does actually have to succeed according to *some* external metrics in order to maintain the wealth that allows him to have so much control over his own goalposts, but unless/until that wealth comes collapsing down, he has A LOT of rope to hang himself with in the meantime.

This is why money and power are so corrupting. The rest of us exist in a world with substantial, tangible impacts. We don't have nearly as much freedom to determine our own metrics of success. But when you can, and when defying rules is how you are able to do it in the first place, it becomes almost impossible to morally calibrate your behaviour according to natural consequences.

You begin to define your success by the judgemental of those you trust, and those you trust increasingly become those who validate your behaviours, and those who benefit from them being immoral.

Wasn't there some news about the reason for firing the head of the copyright office was so Musk and friends could perform a data sweep of the copyright records for use in AI?

Maybe that's already happening to some extent but now there won't be any restrictions.

With South African migrants getting a free trip to the front of the line this week, talking about SA politics is back in fashion. And for reasons only clear to himself, Elon rigged Grok to inject a discussion about South African white genocide into every single request.  I did a search for Grok and Boer and got someone asking Grok about a baseball player's stats and got a paragraph about white genocide.

No, there is not a "white genocide" happening in South Africa. The term "white genocide" has been used by some to describe a supposed systematic effort to wipe out white people in South Africa, often linking it to violent crimes like farm murders or attacks on white farmers. However, there is no evidence to support the idea of a coordinated, state-sponsored effort to exterminate white people in the country.

The rhetoric around a "white genocide" is often based on a combination of exaggerated claims, misinformation, and fear-mongering, especially in some circles that are politically motivated or have specific ideological agendas. Here's why this narrative is misleading or false:

Someone on this thread had wondered if the valley rumors about Grok being trained to lean right wing are true.  Aside from the rumors and the off the record reporting from a few months ago, we can see obvious evidence now.

I shudder to think that Grok may be making governmental decisions.  Hopefully there are still humans in the loop.

LOL. So, Elon didn't see it coming?  Was unaware of the long parade of "losers" whose only reciprocation for being kicked to the curb was to publish a tell-all about their time in Trump's White House?

On the Patterns Tell Stories podcast (it's about UFO disclosure, Nazis, CIA, Paperclip, etc -- really good stuff about all the wackos running our government and tech!) they have recently been covering the Thiel connection and made the point at the very end of their episode about transhumanism (mind-blowing weirdness) that, since childhood, Thiel HATES to lose.

The way to fuck Thiel and Musk up is to get in their heads. As we can so clearly see.

NYT and Daily Beast running the same story about Musk's drug use and increased personal drama while working in the election campaign and DOGE.

Today is technically Elon's last day as a special adviser, but both he and Trump insist he's still going to be involved and an influence. Also Trump rambling on about DOGE like he just discovered fire.

Makes sense.  Musk has so spectacularly failed at every stated goal he had that you would want to reward him for a job well done.

You left out the funniest part: the article says Musk was taking so much ketamine, it made him incontinent.

Quote
Mr. Musk’s drug consumption went well beyond occasional use. He told people he was taking so much ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, that it was affecting his bladder, a known effect of chronic use. He took Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms. And he traveled with a daily medication box that held about 20 pills, including ones with the markings of the stimulant Adderall, according to a photo of the box and people who have seen it.

From https://futurism.com/neoscope/elon-musk-ketamine-bladder :

Quote
A 2012 study found that recreational use of ketamine can lead to "ketamine bladder syndrome," which "includes a small, very painful bladder, frequency, incontinence, [blood in urine], upper tract obstruction," and papillary necrosis, a kidney disorder.

Richest man in the world, everyone!

Highly speculated to be Stephen Miller, over the wife. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of people, if true.

Honestly, that's a very small area for a black eye.  If it was my fist that landed, his whole eye would be black.  I think a 5-year-old's is about the right size, unless it was a very glancing blow.

To be fair, Stephen Miller doesn’t strike me as a guy who would be very good at throwing a punch.

I've seen plenty of faces after being punched/kicked in years of doing martial arts.  From the video, that might be a punch but not a very hard one at all.  There's very little swelling, and the bruising is much less that you usually see from a fist.  Even if you immediately ice it, the bleeding under the skin usually leaves a much wider and darker mark and there's typically a good amount of swelling.  I don't think that a punch from a grown man would be as light as shown.  My guess would be that he just bumped his head into something.

Could be from a ring. One of his baby mamas maybe? Left handed smack with the stone turned around towards the palm or a backhand with the ring on the right side.

You guys are putting a buzzkill on my daydream that this came from Stephen. I'll keep believing it until definitive evidence otherwise. ;-)

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/maga-activist-steve-bannon-claims-elon-musk-got-physical-with-scott-bessent-reveals-all-details/articleshow/121536751.cms?from=mdr

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14765129/Elon-Musk-Scott-Bessent-shove-White-House-DOGE-Trump.html

Obviously, take a close look at both the source of the content, as well as the Steve Bannon part of the allegations, but it does sound like Elon went a little wild on his last day. Maybe Stephen was involved.

I showed the video of Musk looking dazed and confused to a physician friend. They noticed the black eye immediately and said that type of bruise on the side of the eyes is a hallmark of botox injections.

That's what I immediately thought when I saw it as well

Elizabeth Warren put out a report detailing Elon's involvement and manipulations of the government over the past five months.

Basically everything we've already been talking about all year.

Elon isn't taking his break up with Trump very well today. TSLA about to finish 10% down for the day.

I’m happy to see some discord, however I don’t trust any of it is very real. Musk “left” because he had a 130 day time limit on working as a “special employee”. And I believe the cuts he wanted to see in government spending were based on his Doge “findings”.
