Made my first aurora timelapse

I made my first timelapse of the aurora borealis just outside my town in Iceland. What do you think?

Beautiful!

I've been trying to see the aurora for years.  We went to Iceland in February of 2012, but although it was brilliantly sunny during the day, it clouded over every night.  We learned too late that we really needed to head north, way out of Reykjavik, to have a decent chance.  Still, I love Iceland, what tiny portions I've seen (I've been 3x, but all to Reykjavik and nearby).  Geysers, geothermal power plants, waterfalls, volcanos, friendly people, and horses!  Some of the latter almost ended up on our dinner plate, but thankfully the waitress let us know...

My mom (who's a very active 80) would go again in a heartbeat if we had a decent chance of seeing the aurora (it's pretty much the final item on her bucket list). You don't do Air B&B, do you?

Nice work. I see auroras almost every night here in winter but never bothered to take any photos or videos. I actually spent over 30 years in the Arctic but have only a handful of photos of the places I've seen and things I did. Same with all the international travel I did, because I thought lugging a camera around was bothersome. This will be my last winter in the Arctic so this remind me I should take a few photos before I leave for warmer climes...

Love it!  One of my bucket list items is to go see that in person.  Within a few years, I think... :)

If you ever visit again I would be happy to take you along and discuss mustachianism while we are hunting for the aurora. I don't do Air B&B myself but my hometown Selfoss has a ton of them. My town is quite small so escaping the light pollution is very easy, just a 5 minute drive.

Beautiful - how do you reconcile mustachianism with photography? Challenging isn't it? Equipment, software, lenses, tripod etc.

Nice video! I spent a week in Iceland last September. You have a beautiful country. We didn't see the aurora there, but I did have the chance to see it in Alaska this spring. Photos really can't capture it, though your video came close.

Thank you everybody, I really appreciate it.

Challenging yes. I "luckily" bought my camera in my pre-mustachian days. However I was already quite frugal and bought it used but in good condition. Since then I've barely spent a penny. The time-lapse remote control I got for my birthday and I used a free software to make the photos into a video. I can pay extra to be able to make them higher definition, which would be really nice, the resolution in the aurora video isn't all that great. Sure I want lenses and sliders and different kinds of software but these all go to my birthday/christmas wish list for now.

So the video is somewhat mustachian.

Funny how my wish list hasn't been as long since I was about 10 years old. I guess that's what happens when you almost stop buying "stuff".

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
