Lady Mustaches, do we need something more appropriate?
« on: June 24, 2014, 02:12:55 AM »
I am male, and I see that female posters have the same length of mustaches applied to them. I suspect that lady posters are not impressed by the supposed length of their mustaches, so I suggest the Rapunzel measure as a replacement. A new lady poster would be a Short Hair Rapunzel, later being a Medium Length Hair Rapunzel, moving on to a Long Hair Rapunzel.

I'm glad to see that all the responses so far are opposing this "separate but equal" garbage.

It seems as though the ladies are secure in their lady-ness.

+1 keeping the mustache.

Thank you for the offer and for thinking about it from a different perspective. I find the mustache analogy to be fun, and I'm aiming for a Luis Tiant stache.

Hmm, I always thought that the "mustache" was a play on words type thing i.e. "mucho stash".  In which case, why wouldn't we want "mustaches"!

The rapunzel thing doesn't work as well with the play on words, aside from the fact that men can just as easily grow long hair as women, but except for inheritable traits, hormonal issues and cysts it is difficult for women to grow moustaches (even then, I believe in general the moustaches are a light spattering of hair).

Never thought about it beyond the "stash" part, but wouldn't it be "must stash"?  As in, youu at save money or you won't retire early

You're right - nothing equal here as my mustache is wayyyyyyyy longer than yours! OK maybe it's shorter but it's ....... portly :-)!   Proud of my little stout mustache and plan to keep it and call it what it is.

No I won't shave my little stache,  if that's what you're asking (stamps foot ;)

Can't blame you for asking though; it's probably a bit unsettling.

Besides which - Rapunzel? Really! I don't want to lay my hair out so someone else can take advantage of it to climb up!

I appreciate the sentiment, but as anyone who has been to a mustachio bashio can attest, moustaches are for all!

You are (perhaps inadvertently) implying that long hair is superior to short hair.

I don't need long Rapunzel hair so a prince can come and save me!

I need a big bushy moustache, so I can take good care of myself :)

I was waiting for somebody to suggest levels of bush (starting with Brazilian). Then I thought maybe I was the only one with such a dirty mind.

No. Your not. I first saw this thread after mc6 posted, and I immediately wondered which lips she was talking about.

So then got me thinking about landing strips....map of Tasmania....right through to amazonian forest/Disco Stu afro/1970's style.

Lol, so Brazilian is anti-um...hair accomplished. Problem with this is as some people get older they don't have the same, uh, Amazonian rainforest that they had in youth. Best to stick with mustaches.

This would raise questions about the -- um-- meaning behind the MMM categories: Stubble, Bristles, Magnum, Handlebar

The mustache is a good analogy.  It takes perseverance to develop one; it is an adult feature, its not widely reinforced by the culture, it distinguishes an individual.  Long hair does not correspond as a female feature: it can simply be a holdover from childhood, it is widely and strongly approved by the culture, it is therefore not much of a distinction!  In fact, a mustache for a woman would be a GREAT marker of pronounced individuality!  Viva las mujeres mustaches.

Also, is Lord Mustache what the guys here are calling themselves?  Cause that is silly.

When I look in the mirror in the morning in certain lights, my mustache is rather visible.  :D

Thank you for the thought, but I like my mustache!

I certainly got some replies to my post. When I was young, there was a comic strip called 'Peanuts' by Charles Schulz, and the family dog, Snoopy, sometimes thought of himself as a British pilot in the First World War taking on the Red Baron and his Flying Circus. I see myself as Snoopy, his plane on fire, plummeting towards the ground.

If I were a politician, haranguing the crowd, I would be covered in tomatoes by now.

All good fun.

I don't think gender-specific terms are really constructive and/or necessary for a web forum about money. I think people should not feel pressed to reveal their gender identity here. So if we put in a more female-specific term and it's not adopted by a user, do we then assume a user is male?

I have to admit, my mind went in the same direction as happierathome. The females of my family also do moustaches...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
