Just saw the new "Furious 7" movie......
« on: April 15, 2015, 02:47:27 PM »
I had to vent somewhere because I am just not understanding movies anymore.  I went to see this movie with my long time girlfriend for her birthday.  Being it was her birthday she obviously chose the movie, and chose this one in hopes that I would like it (yeah right)...   This movie was mind blowing!  As in the whole time I wanted to cock a .357 magnum and blow my mind out of my skull.  I found it THAT painful to watch this OVER 2 HOUR! movie.  This movie felt like a mountain dew commercial on steroids that smoked crack cocaine while in Cancun mexico for spring break being filmed by Girls Gone Wild...  I was amazed at the absurdity, and it never ended!!  for 2 hours!!  Nothing but over the top, insane car chase sequences, with guns, explosions, tits, more guns, grenades, THE ROCK's classic one liners, more tits, more guns, Vin Diesel's lame one liners, thongs, burnouts, bikinis, drones, Assault Helicopters, more tits, and Vin Diesel literally collapsing a parking garage with one stomp of his foot.  All this testosterone thrown at you while cleverly placing iconic imagery of Corona, Under Armor, Dodge Challengers, and of course RAY BAN Sunglasses!  This movie sucked!  Period... sorry.... I mean it gave me a headache for christ sake.  I remember back in the day when an action movie was cool because you saw it and thought " Hey!  Even though I know its not real, they did a decent job making it seem realistic and somewhat plausible",  now we have "  Alright watch me leap frog this 3 million dollar sports car over 1000' foot towers while wearing my custom tailored Italian designer suit".  It doesn't bother me that Hollywood puts this crap out now, what bothers me is that it seems to be the norm now.  Or maybe im just getting older... 33.... yeah right.    Should I just go back to watching Gunsmoke and The 6 million Dollar man?  I guess things change.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of "action" movies like that, but my wife loves them.

/shrug

People have different tastes.  I don't care for certain genres of music, but it doesn't bother me if other people do.

It's all good.  :)

Yeah, it's ridiculous.  You go in there knowing it's gonna be ridiculous.  I loved it anyway, for the eye candy and the cars.  My wife has a thing for that ridiculous turkey chinned Vin Diesel guy, so it's even good with her.  :-)

At least there were tits!  But really, I don't get it either.  Probably why I've forgone the theater for home viewing so at least if it sucks you multitask.

For your consideration:  Hollywood has always put out tons of crap, it's just that the crap is quickly forgotten about and the good movies remain.  I mean, how many Death Wish movies were there again?

Hey! Vin Diesel is hot!

:P
I like him in some of his other movies like the pacifier and chronicles of riddick.
My boyfriend and I kept asking each other during F&F7 if we could call bullshit now? During 6 too, especially the aeroplane scene. That was bananas.
I can't (well I can really) believe there's going to be a Fast and Furious 8...

It was indeed one of the worst movies I saw in the past year or so, although I can't be totally sure because I sleep through many other movies I was "forced" to watch. I have a weekend job assisting persons with developmental disabilities, and Friday evening is movie night so in the past year and a half, I had to sit almost every single Friday evening watching the newest Hollywood mind-numbing offerings including this latest F&F sequel, Spiderman, Transformers, Dumb and Dumber 2, X-Men, Godzilla, Ninja Turtles and the likes. The good news is that I get paid quite well to watch a movie and eat popcorn.

For whatever it's worth, Furious 7 just became the fastest movie ever to hit $1 billion in box office take.

I didn't like any of the rest of the movies, so I don't think I'll be watching #7.

I kinda blame the 1st F&F movie for the influx of fart cannon'd cars running around on the roads over the past decade.

I think your rant is somewhat valid...   However, I go into a movie and I don't weigh the real vs. fake stuff.. It is all Hollywood and they can do some pretty good trickery with CGI and special effects..       I liked the opening of the movie and the desert scenes and the Race Wars scene..    not so much for the boobs and the butts..      I live just down the street from where those scenes were filmed and I ride those roads weekly..      I have always gotten that same cool feeling out here on the open desert roads!!!

cheers!

I consider this a win due to the fact that I have never even hear of this movie and yet it is considered popular by the mainstream public.  The lack of TV watching or general exposure to ads I learned from MMM and this blog is paying off.

One of my favorite MMM quotes:
"I believe one of my biggest advantages in the battle to maximize happiness while buying less stuff than most people, is not even knowing what stuff is available to buy."

It's the 7th highest grossing movie of all time.

The first movie in the franchise was in 2001, before the current dominance of Marvel films and spate of musical films. It even outlasted other franchises like harry potter. I can't think of any other movie series that has lasted this long, other than the upcoming star wars sequels.

Guess there will always be a market for movies about fast cars. /shrug

Been a fan of the series but I cant remember why I saw the first few movies. The 4th or the 2nd are probably my least favorite, as I really didnt like the car chases in the 4th movie through the tunnels.

7th was entertaining I guess. I am curious what the original ending was before they re-wrote it

I am going to pay for it as well. Experiences count, and in my view seeing a movie like this (crammed with special effects, loud noise and music) in a theater with friends, and going over all ridiculousness afterwards over a pint, definitely is an experience, not to be compared to watching a download for free at home on my TV. It's not just the movie itself.

So is F&F more like Cannonball Run or Smokey & The Bandit?

At work we watch for the release dates of the F&F movies and brace for the collision investigations. I've never actually seen any of the movies, but in my eyes, the more unrealistic they are, the less likely I am to hear about drivers smearing themselvesacross the road trying to emulatea movie hero. At least I can hope.

If you can't come up with $7 to see a movie every once in a while, then either you're not a movie person or you are perhaps cutting yourself a little too thin.  I haven't seen a movie in the theaters since last year; in fact I think I've only seen one movie in the theaters since last summer but I'll be going to see the Avengers 2 with my son this weekend.  He's still a teenager and I have precious little time to bond with him before he'll be all grown up and out on his own.  It is absolutely worth buying movie tickets a couple times a year in order to bond with my only child.

For the record, I've seen 5 of the 7 movies, but only the first one in the theater.  They are definitely action movies of the 80's & 90's style where everything is over the top and intentionally ridiculous.  I mean its comical that they reached a point where they said Vin Diesel still isn't big enough so they got the Rock, then in the 6th movie said that the Rock isn't big enough and got some monster who's even bigger than him to be part of the cast, albeit as a bad guy.  That's the style of these movies.  Everything over the top...and then a little more.

I actually prefer to see movies at home instead of the theater. But I don't have a teenager to bond with. And I also don't spend the time to watch any TV at this point.

And you expected anything different from the 7th movie in the Fast and Furious series?  They're getting sillier than Die Hard. :)

... based on that review, I'll probably see it when it gets to Redbox, because that's literally exactly what I would hope for in that movie.

The Fast and Furious franchise is built on an extremely simple premise: Show a lot of car chases.  If it has explosions and scantily-clad people of both sexes, even better.
It's not particularly cerebral or even a decent story, but it works for their demographic.

I have to say I'd rather watch a F&F movie than one based on a bunch of mustachians.  It would go something like this:
Bunch of young, fit, highly paid individuals jump on their bicycles. (note: bicycles were bought on craigslist for a song - not $5,000 sexy carbon-fiber bikes, but scraped-up and functional commuter bikes).
Group races through city streets, generally obeying the laws and being nice to pedestrians.  In a pivotal scene, one guy out-flanks a F-250 stuck in traffic.  Whoosh!
"Bike scene" ends as the riders converge on a public park.  Tupperware containers come out and everyone enjoys a nice picnic.  Talk turns on the great "heist" they are planning... something about moving huge sums of money from their old 401(k) to a ROTH using some nifty-but-perfectly-legal transactions.  Then there's some dancing.  One person mentioned having to head home because he has work the next day.  He gets teased by the others for having to "work".  Sun sets and scene fades to black.  The end.

umm..... yeah.  I'd rather watch jacked-up muscle cars flying off bridges than that story.

I absolutely love the Fast and Furious series.  You need to understand that this is an over-the-top ridiculous action series in a world where the laws of physics do not operate the same.  You turn off your brain and watch fun explosions and car stunts.  The whole point of the series is to pump your fists in the air as Vin Diesel and The Rock beat the hell out of stuntmen and make their cars blow up.  If you are the type who would rather watch Keira Knightley's newest costume drama, then this isn't the series for you.  If you love testosterone and boobs and big guns and nice cinematography in exotic locales, then by all means watch the series.

I don't get why people knock this series so much.  This series does exactly what it's meant to do, which is why it's so successful.  It's way better than most of the crappy, boring movies that get nominated for Oscars every year.  I've never fallen asleep during a Fast and Furious movie.

Hey, I have the hots for Keira Knightley but I love test and boobs and big guns and the rest of that stuff!

Watched 'Atonement' the other night and she's just amazing.
