Ideas for New Years Reaolutions?
« on: November 11, 2015, 10:06:48 PM »
I know lots of people don't make resolutions..but I'm actually really good at them. I've always been into the whole fresh start thing and I love it.

So towards the end of each year I really take the extra time to really think about what I want to accomplish in the year ahead. Even with small things I make them goals as long as they will really benefit and help me.

So! Any ideas for goals for the new year? What are some of yours? I want to make this the best year yet!

Start now...  I never understood New Year resolutions...  Why wait until January to start a goal?

Agree, do something about it now so on New Year's Eve you're not sitting around feeling bad about your weight/fitness/bank account/drinking/misc. problem and feeling the need to make a resolution.  Instead, you'll be excited to start 2016, already rocking your badass, improved weight/fitness/bank account/reduced drinking/misc. addressed problem.

As for ideas, someone somewhere mentioned a friend giving up feeling awkward.  Ever.  I liked the idea so am trying to give up feeling socially uncomfortable in weird situations, even just by acknowledging the weirdness then saying/doing what I really want to say/do.

I'm actually still finishing up the resolutions from last year by getting ready to start the New Year.

I made lots of resolutions  this year to keep me busy and m almost done.

Now I'm just looking for ideas on what I can do when these are done.

It's been a great year! :-)

I have specific New Years revolutions every year. Sometimes I achieve the resolution very quickly, sometimes it takes the entire year, and sometimes I fail. I document each resolution and whether I pass or fail. I feel like this is a good way of holding myself accountable and remaining focused on my goals throughout the year.

I don't really do them in terms of waking up January 1 and having a whole new start on life. But, I do consider small changes that I want to make and a fresh start to committing to them. I like resolutions I can keep. When I was in my 20s, having grown up in a pretty dirty house and never learning to make my bed  - I decided that I really wanted to make a regular, daily habit of making my bed. This is a small change. I like how the room looks, etc. Well, 20+ years later I still making my bed every day.

A few years ago it was to no longer leave dirty dishes in the sink (which wasn't a huge problem). Mostly they would sort of pile up for a day because I was avoiding unloading the dishwasher. So, I've been really good on that for a few years now.

I guess, for me, it comes down to a small daily habit as a resolution. I would never keep something like "lose 30 pounds" or "go to the gym every day" or whatever. Big changes require a different mechanism for me.

I have noted that gym membership seems to explode in January and die off again by mid-March.

Yeah, people are very bandwagon jumpy about stuff.  When I was teaching Taekwondo, every time a popular martial arts movie would come out our class size would double within a couple weeks.  It would be back to normal after a month or two.
