I was raised to help clean up. So when dinner is finished, plates are collected and washed and leftovers are put away. Many hands make light work.
Sometimes I am exposed to other families, where one parent is stuck putting everything away and the adult children (despite the parent's entreaties) don't really help. It drives me nuts! Especially since I know these kids to be kind, intelligent, and wonderful people... It's just so inconsistent.
How can we raise kids that help out?? And what's up with kids that don't? And let's not call them lazy or whatever because that doesn't get to the root of anything when they're highly accomplished individuals in other areas of life.
