Help me name my worms and farm!
« on: October 08, 2014, 11:48:19 AM »
Like the title says, I'll be getting worm composting going in a couple of weeks and eventually a balcony garden, and want to name both. It's hard to think of these things though!

I tend to like things that are kind of dark. We came up with "Earthly Devourers" and "Wyrm Horde" for the worms as a possibility (group name needed - not about to individually name them!). I'm completely fine with ripping off names from movies, books, video games, or tv shows.

Pretty open for the "farm" name. It could be in the form of ___ Farm, or just a name on its own. It would be hilarious if it tied into the worm name somehow, but not necessary.

Any fun ideas?

Wait, you're not open to individually naming them? This thread just became much less entertaining than I thought it was going to be.

Can you name one Captain Nemotoad for me anyway?

We got a bunch of ducks recently and went with a Wu Tang theme. Duck Face Killa, Ol' Dirt Quackstard, etc. Something like that where new MC worms can slot in might work well for you. The farm would be Shaolin in that case. Good luck!

As for a dark group name, how about "The Conqueror Worms."

Or
"The Recyclers"
"Resurrection Farm"

Or call your Worm Farm
"Shallow Grave"

Rather than farm, just call it The Mustachian Cemetery.  I'd call the worms 'caretakers'.

I REALLY like Shallow Grave for the worm bucket section of the farm.

I suggest that you name each worm after one of your friends from this site.  I would be much more interested in your worm farm if I was following the life and loves of a worm named 2ndTimer

Well, this could make the farm The Mustachian Cemetery or maybe the Mustachian Purgatory (after all some of your dead will resurrect as cute little vegetables there)

Fantasy Farm.

And, hey…I wanted a worm named Lizzzi after me. Actually, looking upthread, never mind. The best worm name is Blackadder.

Back in the long, long ago when I was stationed in the San Fran Bay area there was a local band called the Slug Lords with the catchy by-line: "Slug Lords: Trail of Slime". I always thought that would be a charming name for oozy things :-)!

Maybe the Wyrm Horde could be called The Addams Family. "They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky. They're altogether ooky--the Addams Family."

Same here.  Come on Zikoris!  Naming them is the first step to realizing they all have their own personalities.

Goddam it, me too. This thread is probably going to be a whole lot shorter than I expected.

Yay! Oh thank you, Zikoris, you have named the most beautiful one after me. Note it's rosy pink color and the long, elegant lines of its conformation. Clearly a thoroughbred worm.

I'm jealous!  Starting a worm farm was on my list of summer "must dos", but I didn't get it done.

Where did you get your worms?

The City of Vancouver has an official mostly-subsidized program where they give you the bin, worms, supplies, a class, and literature for $25. Otherwise, I think any fishing supply store would be able to help.

Cool program!  I already have a magazine article that shows how to do it -- but I'd probably spend most of $25 for the materials to build the bins and buy the worms.

Worm update: I had to bring my worm bin in last night since it dropped below freezing. I woke up screaming at 2am convinced that they were crawling all over me in bed. Obviously they were not. I think I have issues.

Yeah, you scared Lizzzi (she communicates with me by ESP), but she is over it now. She's all cosy down in the cow manure, and says she does not crawl all over humans, so not to worry.

2ndTimer looks very intelligent.  Note the high forehead, oops wrong end.
