Listening to 7 - 13 year old girls giggle.  My daughter organized a gathering of her mates to paint ceramic pieces at a shop downtown.  They all painted their pieces and then walked home to our place to wait for their parents to pick them up.  They are playing a card game and being delightful grade eight girls.  Some of them I have known since they were 2.5 years old from daycare.  They are so tall and polite and beautiful.

DH being technical and handy. We bought some new lamps and within no-time he has changed the switches on the wall, hung up the ceiling lamps, connected them to wifi and programmed different scenes.

Discovering that you can rent a house or appartment in a nice outdoor place with an amazing view for very little money, in the north of Norway. This is what we plan to do after FIRE. We found out that we would save a lot compared to what we spend on our house, if we could have the money of our house in stocks.

Sitting in the sun during my lunch break at work, for the first time this year. I managed to get a bit sunburned (not so good).

Woke up at 5:30 am. Went to see some interesting early morning birds in their mating period. Driving back home from our cabin. During the drive spotting a moose and a falcon bird. Delivering old oven and stove halfway the driving trip. After that, buying a pair of needed new glives for 50% of price. Then visiting El Cheapo shop aong the route and found a lot of stuff that we needed for a cheap price. All in all a pretty effective day.

Happy dog greeting when we get home in the afternoon. The kids telling us about their day - and the news is good.

I ran into coworkers and their baby after work.  Baby is like a grown up man with a man face and hair, and was awake and sweet.

During 2018 I have had many episodes of memory loss, having a total blackout remembering words and sentences. Both during normal speech, but also when writing English (foreign language) and not having a clue how to spell words. This happened several times a day, several days a week. My MIL has a sort of dementia and her symptoms started out the same way. So I have been worried about myself becoming early dement. I have also been unable to multitask and can't remember anything anymore.

Yesterday I went to see my GP. I wanted him to investigate a little spot on my leg for a form of non-aggressive skin cancer that I have had before. And I wanted to talk about this memory loss issue. Based on my information and my answers to his questions and the fact that it has been a lot better for the last 2 weeks, he concluded that it could be situational and due to stress. It is not likely to be any form of dementia.

This has taken away a new portion of stress for me. My stress factors are now disappearing one by one. One big private stress factor left which can hopefully be eliminated after the summer.

A walk in the woods with the dogs and my husband. Both dogs are now too old for anything long or strenuous (and too big to carry - they're Great Danes). But the woods are twenty steps from our front door, and in two minutes we're into old growth. The dogs had a blast and got to come back in to water and rest when they tired. It's another reason to be glad we bought a large forest tract (preservation being the primary reason).

Yesterday I spent the morning/early afternoon playing 18 holes on my favorite course, on a beautiful day and with friends I have not seen in forever. To top it all off I shot the best round of my life coming at at 1-under par.

Seeing someone rise to a challenge.

Three months ago our 12 year old son dropped his laptop and broke the screen.  This event was a _big deal_ in our family, as we don't buy lots of things for our kids, and suffice it to say he was devastated.  We didn't hurl blame, just let the emotions unfold and we hoped it would be a memorable lesson.  It goes without saying that we didn't offer to replace the laptop.

So this whole time DH and I did and said nothing, and the broken laptop was under DS's bed.  I had honestly forgotten about it.  Unbeknownst to us parents, DS had been researching whether you could replace a laptop screen.  Following a Youtube tutorial he found, DS took the broken laptop apart and played around with it.  Then he came to us, showed us the dismantled laptop, explained that he wanted to try replacing the screen, and asked if we would help him order a replacement screen online if he paid for it with his own money.  The replacement screen was $65, which is a lot of money for him --three months' allowance.  We ordered it for him, and it came in the mail today.

Son just called me at work to say he replaced the screen by himself and the laptop is up and running.  He's very proud of himself.  I love his initiative and self reliance -- just awesome.

Congrats on the screen repair. I love witnessing that sense of accomplishment - whatever the challenge was.

Cheap thrill: watching our youngest zoom by on our ebike grinning like a madman last evening. 15 mph can be alot of fun.

Last night, we registered our first ever LLC business.  I then slept better than I have in a really, really long time.

Clouds are rolling in and the sunrise on my way into work this morning was beautiful.  I can't wait for today!

Decided to mess around with my son's laptop for school. The keyboard stopped working at the end of last year and I tried all sorts of fixes, but nothing. We were researching good deals on laptops since school is a month away. I disassembled the computer, cleaned and removed the keyboard cable and used compressed air to blow out any dust. I believe the cable may have come loose as it came out easy but was rather tough to slide back in. Put it all back together and what do you know! Computer fired right up and keyboard works to perfection. Saved my son a couple hundred bucks ( :

Laptops are surprisingly fixable.  Since posting the screen replacement story above, our family has replaced a charger socket, a heat sink, and two batteries on three different machines.  Thanks Youtube!

Okay, this is not very mustachian and might tempt some to facepunch me but I spent the day yesterday with my granddaughter. We got pedicures then went shopping for school clothes (she starts kindergarten this fall). When we got home she was wearing one of her new dresses and looking at her sparkly toes when she said "I feel so beautiful."

Facepunch if you like, I think it was money and time well spent.

I had a refreshing bike commute into work this morning.

Due to unexpected construction, I had to take a different route. Instead of my low-traffic, separated bike path section I had to maneuver on our 2 busiest roads (4-6 lanes wide).  Not one honk or side swipe, everyone fully moved over into the other lane to pass. It was fantastic.
+1 for taking the lane and being visible, consistent, and communicating  :)

Took my daughter and nephew swimming yesterday at my dad's apartment complex pool, which is really nice. They had so much fun I couldn't get them out of the pool. Afterwards I treated my daughter and myself to some yummy subs at our local favorite sub shop. Then back home for a movie and popcorn. My DW took our son and some friends to an escape room. Sounded like they had a blast. Then they went and played Putt Putt afterwards. I feel like after a couple long weeks of scolding hot weather it was great for everyone to get out and have some fun.

Yesterday:

1.  Went to my favourite mechanic to pick up my car.  He was putting in a new starter motor.  He is excellent and goes above and beyond, but I was expecting about $400.  He comes out, says 'It turned out to just be the connectors, give me $20 and we are good'.

2.  My friend who is moving out of town calls to tell me he is getting rid of some fishing and golfing gear as he downsizes.  He ends up handing me an utterly beautiful fishing rod - maybe $900 new, I would never buy one.  He then gives me a really cool tackle box full of nice lures as well.

3.  I receive a call out of the blue about a unit I have up for rent (a small art studio).  I was thinking about calling the local paper  and advertising it, but this guy calls me out of nowhere and we arrange to meet at the place so he can have a look.  He walks around, takes some measurements, then asks about a couple other small rentals I have (storage lockers).

After he leaves, he calls me and tells me he wants them all (Hooray!).  I get the paperwork organized over lunch, then meet him afterwards to hand over the keys etc.  He hands me a cheque for $6500, which is the total rent on all 3 units for a full year.

So yeah, pretty good day.  On top of that, both the kids were at sleepovers at their friends' houses, so a nice quiet evening and morning to boot.

Both our kids were away at camps.  For one of them, it was his first time ever, and for the other it was her longest time ever.  They were both glowing with happiness when we picked them up and couldn't stop chattering about the fantastic times they had.

My friend was talking about his new job working for an extremely rich man.  He was telling me about all the property and toys this guy has.  I asked, "but is he happier than me?" And my friend says, "I don't know anyone happier than you."  :)

This is a shoutout as well as something that made my day.

A good friend brings flowers when you're sick.

A great friend repots a house plant.

A big thank you to @marty998 for doing the heavy lifting while I can't.

I was so great I had to re-pot it twice after stuffing it up the first time >_<

I had lunch yesterday with a dear friend of mine who is 99 years old.  She has become my 'adopted grandma', and I just love our time together.
