Hi all,
I wondered if anyone has any experience with getting a very itchy throat after eating certain processed foods? My husband and I cook wholefoods about 99% from scratch due to his food intolerance's and I think we eat so healthy now that I am becoming sensitive to some things too, probably not a bad thing and a sign that i eat healthier. I've never had any intolerance's / allergies that I know of, but recently treated myself to some Warburtons Crumpets:

and then last week some fresh pasta:

I can't see any obvious links or cross over ingredients and as mentioned have no problem with any known allergens like wheat, dairy etc. I'm aware that sometimes there's things in food that aren't listed but that are part of the process of being made.
Any thoughts appreciated. ps - probably will avoid these too in future, just interested to investigate more.

Eggs? Fresh pasta usually has eggs in it. I'm moderately allergic to eggs, I get similar symptoms. (Itchy throat, stomach ache, hives in my mouth).
The krumpets didn't list eggs though.

Hi Scottish, I'm fine with eggs but interesting to know about the similar symptoms.. makes me think I had a mildly allergic response to whatever it was.

Yeast is present on both ingredient lists. I understand yeast is pretty sensitizing and that people can develop intolerances to it pretty easily (although what you described sounds more like an allergy), yeast can be grown on different substrates (beets, molasses and barley I think are a few) so you can get trailing sensitivities from those mediums. Just something to add to your possible suspects list.
Maybe get a skin test if it continues?
My throat used to itch when I would eat strawberries but I grew out of it.

Thanks better late.
I use yeast in a bread I bake regularly with no resulting problems however its interesting what you say about substrates, I'll have a look into that too. I read an interesting book called "swallow this" by Joanna Blytham a while back and apparently there can be more products involved in food production but because they are said not to be left in the final product they are not listed. I've been wondering if this situation is something like that but it would be hard to work out as a result. I'll have a think about skin tests if it continues. Thanks again.
