Dublin pubs--two questions
« on: October 05, 2015, 11:33:03 AM »
So I'll be spending eleven nights in Dublin soon, in a hostel  near Aston Quay and the O'Connell Bridge. Do any of you have any personal recommendations for good pubs within walking distance?  (Comfortable "feel", atmosphere, ambiance, nice people, good music...whatever....just looking for some ideas. What worked for you...or not. )

And in terms of looking for another kind of pub... just on the off-chance that this won't sound totally stupid--are there any pubs in Central Dublin where you can do American-style country line dancing? Just asking. (I'm really not an Ugly American...and yes, I can do the Walls of Limerick, too.)

1.  You won't be lacking for choices.  The area you are staying in is chockablock with pubs.  Unfortunately however it tends toward loud, crowded and touristy.  You might want to try O'Neill's on Suffolk Street.  Nearby and a nice atmosphere, and not as frantic.  If you are looking for music try O'Donoghue's on Merrion Row.  It's a bit of a walk and it can be quite crowded but is good fun (craic).

2.  I don't believe there are any pubs where one can do American-style country line dancing

Go to the cobblestone in Smithfield for traditional improv Irish music. You can get there with the red luas. The Bernard Shaw and others around it are also nice. Avoid temple bar and such.
