Wonder if Taylor Swift is bucking for that record? Big shoes to fill, indeed.

My guess is that Swift and Beyoncé will set a whole bunch of new high water marks in the decades to come. Both could easily tour for another few decades and churn out several more chart topping albums.

Ed Ames, the youngest member of the popular 1950s singing group the Ames Brothers, who later became a successful actor in the popular Daniel Boone series has died at the age of 95.

I am just old enough to vaguely remember watching “Daniel Boone” - mostly I remember the theme song.  And I have seen the famous axe throwing incident on the “Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson on YouTube.

95 is a good run.

This is like getting in a time machine.  I don't remember Daniel Boone at all (I googled the theme song) but I still remember the Davy Crockett theme song.   ;-)

I had no idea he was still alive!

I love his singing voice; as a young girl, his version of "Sunrise, Sunset" was one that my dad used to play. I tried hard to find it on CD as our father/daughter dance music at my wedding, but it wasn't out ANYWHERE in 1997. So we danced to another artist's version of the song, but I was sad that I couldn't find his.

I later did buy an Ed Ames Greatest Hits CD, where it appeared. So there's at least one person on the boards who owned music by him which was paid for. ;)

I have that response many times!  I think he had Alzheimer’s, which could explain why there was so little recent news about him.  I had never heard of his music career.  I am not sure if I saw the original broadcast of “Daniel Boone” or if I saw reruns after school or something.

I definitely saw the original series. As did SO. Both of us could sing some of the opening words - even the same ones (goodness knows why we didn’t remember the others). The ones we remember are “Daniel Boone was a man, yes a biiiigggg man, … and he fought for America to make all Americans free”!

It was a catchy theme song - those are the words I remember too.

George Winston! My favorite easy-listening pianist...man my mom loved him so much in the 90's. All I have to do is put on "Winter" and I'm 14 years old, back in the car headed to a family vacation.

He was 74.

What??!?!  No!  His variations on Pachelbel's Cannon in D gives me goosebumps nearly every time.  The entire December album is my most-played of all time. I too was introduced through my mother and had the fortune of going with her to see him play in a very small venue and it was an amazing thing to share with my mom.

That's going to cause some confusion. He was fantastic in "The Kominsky Method". When his character died on the show, people thought he was written out because he had died, or was seriously ill. Happily, that doesn't seem to have been the case.

Paul Reubens (infamous as PeeWee Herman) has died at age 70.

I was an adult (at  least according to a calendar when “Pee Wee’s Playhouse” was on Saturday morning TV.  God I loved that show - along with seeing Phil Hartman as Jamby (sp?) Captain Carl and Lawrence Fishburn as Cowboy Curtis.

“Ahhh! Salesmen!”

My favorite memory of PeeWee's Playhouse was watching it along with the brothers of an Animal House style fraternity.
It is 10AM Saturday morning, everyone has a beer in hand and PeeWee was getting more viewing than some "swimsuit" channel.
Someone stated "This is not for kids, it is for people like us".  Universal agreement and a swig of beer.

I would say “no”,  but that’s my feeling.  First offense - arrested in an adult theater doing an adult thing. I think there was a later offense of having a picture of a underage person. Never any rumors or charges of actual acts that I ever heard about.  It’s all on the internet - so you can make up your own mind.

Sixto Rodriguez, age 81.  Probably the most famous singer/songwriter you've never heard of.  He was the subject of a documentary called Searching for Sugarman, which triggered a career resurgence in North America.  Really interesting; I recommend watching it.  Saw him in concert a few years ago - excellent.  Seemed like a very decent human being also.
