Help me pick some nice music for a video?
« on: December 13, 2018, 02:48:31 AM »
I am making a compilation video of clips I have taken on my phone of my son as he is working through his first year of life.

I quite like this type of music as its pretty happy sounding. Trouble is it comes watermarked with a very loud and annoying "AUDIO JUNGLE" watermark every 5 seconds or so when you download it.

Trouble is... to buy it without the watermark is $30 haha... I want a free option, being an amateur mustachian.

Can anyone recommend a band or song that may have a similar type of sound that would work?

I can't - but there are plenty of royalty-free music downloads for non-commercial use. As long as you don't monetize your video they should be fine to use.

A quick google search brought up this one: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

You have to register, but all sounds/music are supposed to be free for non commercial use (and in many cases they are released for commercial too. you can search for things that are creative commons, attribution non commercial). I've been using them for years and years and they are great.

And the track you are using as reference for what you like sounds to me almost an homage to Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros sound (even has whistling like their big hit "Home"). So also check out "folk rock" type music. Might be able to buy that track and cut one of the instrumental/whistle sections and loop it for your video. Oh! But if it's uploaded to YouTube, they may still mute/block audio if they can recognize the song so maybe research how to add songs to your vids without them doing that...

Does it have to be royalty free? I know of one or two people who post royalty free stuff on YouTube that you can use in your YouTube/similar platform videos.

What is the video for? Because if you're just looking to casually share it with friends over Facebook, I'm pretty sure the copyright thing doesn't matter. You need only worry about copyright (I think) if you're looking to make a monetised video on YouTube or similar.

In the former case, I've always wanted to clip together a feel-good montage to Bon Jovi's Because We Can. Brilliant uplifting, warm track for this sort of thing.

Depends. Safest bet is to go for a royalty-free tune and have no worries about how its shared. Youtube can (and does) pull down videos that impinge on copyrights.

Random, but I have always loved the montage scene in Marley & Me (Theodore Shapiro).  I loved the music and the way the scene was done; it felt frenetic and yet, soothing.  Anyway, I made a video of my children just for my own watching enjoyment and decided to steal the idea and it's one of my favorite videos of them.

Are you into old music?  Like, really, really, really old music?  Because copyright law is currently life of the artist + 70 years.  So if you like any tunes by someone who died in the 40s you can probably use them.  Off the top of my head that would include  . . . uh . . . Charlie Christian, Leadbelly, and Robert Johnson.

Hey all,

Its more so a private video for my family and wife!

I am absolutely up for royalty music, that I may already have, or can buy... e.g. an individual song.  Just not for 30 bucks for one tune haha.

Some nice suggestions, any more?  :)

Just search background music copyright free on youtube. There are tons of free tunes like that. 30 dollars probably gives you the right to publish it, not meant for private family videos.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
