Anyone know how to contact the cFireSim folks (other than the email they list on their website)?
I can't log into my account anymore. The page returns a fatal error when I try to login to retrieve my scenarios. It's been like this for over a month and they haven't fixed it or responded.
-
I've had the same issue. It sucks doesn't it.
-
Try a different browser. At work only Internet Exploder works with Cfiresim. Athome Firefox works without issue, not sure why the work machine stopped playing nicely.
-
Browser doesn't matter for this error:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Table './phpbb/phpBB3_login_attempts' is marked as crashed and last (automatic?) repair failed [144]
An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.
-
That is the error that I get as well and it has nothing to do with the browser.
-
A month later and I am still getting the error. For what it is worth, I emailed the address they list on the site but haven't heard anything. Frustrating.
-
Probably doesn't matter if no one can login but what is the advantage?

I have several different scenarios set up and saved. That way, I don't have to retype in everything all over again.
Our path is a bit more complicated than "how much is in your stock/bond portfolio?"

Got in touch with someone who says they know how to reach the CFireSim owner.
Hopefully it will be running properly soon!
If it works for you, be the first to post here to let others know it's been fixed.

Is it working for anyone?
Still not working for me.

Exactly. I have a number of scenarios saved and it saves me a good amount of time not inputting all of the data each time.
I'm still getting an error today.

Well, same problem as before.
Apparently the maker of the site has wandered off and is no longer responding to emails.

Tracked down the site owner to a facebook website. He last posted to it on July 19th so he's still alive. Sent him a PM via Facebook but no response.
While looking for this thread to update it, I found his MMM handle, so, @bo_knows , we LOVE your website! How can we help you get it up and running again?

Might not get a response from him here, given the following from his profile: Last Active: November 09, 2016, 11:41:59 AM. But it didn't hurt to try. :)

Nothing else has worked...

Swordguy, I appreciate you reaching out! I just woke up, but I'll be checking on the site today.
I haven't kept up with the site much, and I apologize to everyone. I recently went to DC FinCon and was taken aback by how many people still used cfiresim. I'll troubleshoot it today, AND I've been working on avbit of a new version.
I'll post my troubleshooting findings on this thread later today.

Yeay, @bo_knows !!!! It's a GREAT site! Thank you!

@SwordGuy So, a few things: 1) I can't log in either. Something is jacked up with the database. 2) Unfortunately, cfiresim is written in a codebase and a setup that I haven't used in years. I'm not sure I have a great way to recover.
So, right now, I *think* I'm going to restore a backup of the site from 3 years ago. So, it will wipe out anything people have saved in the last 3 years (but hopefully will get login working again).
Secondly, I'm working on getting a new version of cFIREsim up and running, using a language and framework that I use every day at work, which will be MUCH easier to work with. You know, they always say in programming "If you're not embarrassed with code that you wrote 3 months ago, you're not improving". Well, cFIREsim was my first big project as a developer... and I started it like 6 (7?) years ago. I'm definitely embarrassed by the code haha.
I'll keep this thread updated on the restoration process, and I'm going to set up a project management Trello board for the things I need to do for the next version.

@SwordGuy Logins seem to work now.
-
@bo_knows , yeah! It's working and the data wasn't lost, either!
What technology stack will you be writing it in?

I work in Python/Django, so I'll be doing it with that stack. Dockerized environment.
