Books for beginner in foreign languages (Spanish)?
« on: August 15, 2022, 01:56:26 PM »
My partner and I like to travel, and now that we're FIREd we want to do more slow international travel.  I'm learning French and she's learning Spanish, and we're both using Duolingo.  I have found some books that are helpful, but she hasn't found anything similar for Spanish.  The criteria that I can think of are:

Interesting for an adult
~A1 - A2 CEFR level (beginner)
Spanish language

I have found a bunch of books in French, and am working my way through the A1 version of Voyage to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.  The CLE-International website below has the link to the book I'm reading and there are dozens more so I should be good for a while.  I'd like to find something similar in Spanish.

Does anyone know of any beginner level Spanish books that would be suitable for an adult at the A1/A2 level?

Are you in the US? If so, your public library should have a couple shelves full of popular novels in Spanish.  Genre fiction (romance, westerns, etc.) should be easy enough to follow, or else something which you've already read (or seen the movie) in English..

Yes, the library does have a lot of books in Spanish, but I can't find any that are at the A1/A2 CEFR level.  I'm hoping that someone out there knows of books at that level because the searches I've been doing haven't resulted in anything.

Try looking up “Blaine Ray Spanish”. I have about 10 of the books and you can find them used very cheap. I think they’re at the level you are looking for.
