BLUF: Help out a SrA who lost her parents in a murder/suicide
« on: January 27, 2017, 10:25:34 AM »
MMM Community,

BLUF: A junior enlisted service member lost both of her parents in a murder/suicide, and now I am asking assistance from this community, in any form. Her parents did not have life insurance, and she is the only really gainfully employed member of her family, so the onus is on her to bury her parents. She is barely in her early 20's, and this is a huge burden for her at the present time.

I don't really know how to eloquently put this, but I am asking the community for assistance. I understand the community has issues and strong feelings about go fund me pages, and with good reason. However, this was cleared by one of the moderators before posting. I'll go ahead and post the relevant PM traffic. Any advice, or assistance this awesome community is willing to give is greatly appreciated. I also will be honest and state she is a very good personal friend of mine, and I have exhausted my avenues of support via my command and my circle of friends. We are trying to raise as much support as possible before having her take out a loan through one of the military relief agencies.

I fully expect to get a bit of flak for posting this request here, and to be honest, I don't quite care. All I ask is that if you wish to help, do so. Share this with other people or communities you are involved in. If you don't wish to, that is fine too. But this is someone who definitely has worked very hard, and I feel deserves a helping hand up.

Good Morning swick, FrugalToque,

Just a FYSA, I have already messaged Russ, (He is BCC'd) however, I am trying to get an answer relatively quickly.

BLUF: I am requesting to gain moderator permission to post a link to a news article, as well as a go fund me page for a USAF E4 who has lost both of her parents in a pretty horrific murder/suicide.

I understand this goes contrary to what the forum is for, which is why I am asking for permission. However, I believe this person, who is a good friend of mine, is deserving of a hand up. She is really the only one of her siblings that is gainfully employed, and thus the burden of burying both of her parents is on her, as they did not have any life insurance. She has made pretty great strides in the time from her enlistment, and is working hard to make something of herself. So, I am attempting to reach out to those in my online circles to request for any advice, and if possible, assistance for the go fund me. I'd rather not have to see her deal with the added burden of paying off a loan from burying both of her parents.

I know Mustachians by and large are pretty charitable, and our circle of friends have pretty solidly exhausted resources. However, I also totally understand if this is a no-go. It never hurts to ask.

This is the link to the relevant news article.

I appreciate the time.

Hello, Migrator Soul,

We don't have anything explicitly in our forum rules that states you can't create aa post of this nature. There are some strong feelings about "Go fund Me" Campaigns, but this is the sort of thing that it was created to actually help.

I *personally* don't mind if you create a post as long as you clearly state your purpose, involvement, and reasoning for posting.

I would say go ahead, and if any of the other Mods have a problem with it, we can talk about it and ask you to remove it if necessary. I do appreciate you requesting permission first.

Thanks,

Swick
