Best US abortion nonprofit in 2022
« on: December 07, 2022, 11:38:16 AM »
I have a self imposed deadline to donate some money to help protect abortion access before the end of the year. Prior to Dobbs I would have just given money to Planned Parenthood. Now I'm more interested in giving money to organizations that help people get to other states for access. Since I know that there are people on this forum who follow this issue more closely that I do I'm curious to get any suggestions for specific organizations that you would recommend.

I do not know if National Netwerk of abortion funds is “best “but it’s certainly one of them.

Another option is to send money directly to the abortion clinic in your state or nearest to your state because they probably have a grant fund. Personally I like to keep money close to home so I would lean towards that option although I have heard of an organization that will direct your money to the state that needs it most. But I can’t find that place at the moment.

Edited to add: National Network of Abortion Funds  rated 100% from the charity rating website. That is a good rating.

Thank you everyone for the help! I ended up splitting my donation between The Brigid Alliance and National Network of Abortion Funds because I had a hard time choosing just one. The decision paralysis also convinced me to up my total donation by 25%.

I am spending my FIRE working on abortion access and justice issues (as a volunteer on a hotline, as a donor and with legal support).  In addition to those recommended above for future reference and/or for others that visit this thread, I'd suggest taking a look at https://abortioncarenetwork.org/ that supports independent clinics throughout the country.  I also really second the Brigid Alliance, which is a great operation.  A new organization that I made a small donation to and am keeping an eye on is https://elevatedaccess.org/.  They are getting volunteer pilots with planes to help fly people to their appointments, and could be a great help when flying from small rural places not near major airports.

For non-US donors or people with a global perspective (that also helps the US) is https://www.womenonwaves.org/en/page/7721/make-a-donation

I really appreciate this thread. I am considering a reconfiguration/increase in some of my charitable giving this year, and wanted to add abortion support to the list but didn't even know where to start. Thanks, all!

Bumping this back up to say thanks to the OP for asking, and thanks to folks who answered. We added the National Network of Abortion Funds to our list (it's actually a Xmas gift for my mom, so I'll forward the receipt email to her).
