Anyone around? Having a middle of the night panic attack.
« on: November 24, 2016, 02:18:00 AM »
So, I'm trying to calm down from my panic attack.  My husband has come down with the flu and I can't stop worrying. I do struggle with panic attacks at least once a month so I'm kind of used to it but it's especially bad right now.  Sigh. I just need a shoulder to panic on.

Middle of the night? I'm almost ready for lunch!

Flu is nothing to worry about, people get the flu all the time.

Thanks for making me smile! I needed that, even though the thought of lunch is making me wanna hurl! Dunno if I'll make it to Thanksgiving.  Haha

Do you have some tea in the house?
Something with a calming effect would be best, but warm and not caffinated is good enough.
Go get some :)

It's actually dinner time here. Actually later than that, but I got home late so it's dinner time for me.

Chicken in the oven.

Make a hot chocolate and talk to us Penny :)

Herbal tea: Ooh, yes! Chamomile and honey or something :-) Me, I'm having coffee or I'll forget to put on pants before I head out the door!

Oh, I love tea. I think peppermint might be calling my name.

Last time I had a panic attack I drank oj. Can't recommend that one! -_-

Well, absolutely in the top five. :D

Hope you're doing well, Penny.

Oof, just saw this. I've been losing this round of insomnia for the past few hours. I'd have been happy to oblige, if only I'd seen this sooner. + 1 to the peppermint tea, and I hope you're feeling better soon.

It's been two hours since her last response. I certainly hope she's asleep by now.
I have not much experience with panic attacks, but they are supposed to wear of after some time, aren't they?

Hug from me.

The flu can hit hard, but your HB will get better after a while. Just let him take it easy the first 2 weeks afterwards, in matters of exercise.

Thanks guys, managed to get a couple hours sleep after having some tea. Husband's fever is what's scaring me. I know it's par for the course  but it's still worrying.
I really struggle with anxiety so I just wanted to say thanks for helping me. :)

I didn't see this thread until now but just wanted to add that I have crippling anxiety as well. I won't bore you with the details, but I will send a hug and have a cup of chamomile on your behalf. Cheers!

Has he seen a doctor? If not, it might be helpful to have a medical professional check on him and they can either tell you it's nothing to worry about or they can take care of him if he requires more monitoring, this could give you peace of mind. I hope he gets better soon. I've had panic attacks before and they are awful so sending hugs to you too.

I think you would benefit from getting help with your anxiety. I spoke to someone who said she learned to think of likehood for the worst scenarios to happen. She was estonished that her anxiety was cured within half a year after starting to think differently.

Limeandpepper, haven't seen a doctor yet but it's only the second day of him feeling bad. Will definitely get a check up if he doesn't seem to be getting better. The flu has been going around so it's probably that. Sigh

Linda_Norway, I know you are right. It's actually getting worse as I get older. The thought of talking to someone in real life about it makes me even more anxious.  Maybe one day I'll get brave and go. Right now we are dealing with a whole mess of family drama so I think that's compounding my anxiety.

Typhoid_Mary, ((hugs)) Sometimes it's nice to hear other's can relate.  Hope you are having a calm day.

Diane C, sorry, I just noticed your reply. I'm sorry to hear about the insomnia, did you get some rest after all? I tend to have a bout of insomnia after the panic subsides. Feeling like a zombie the rest of the day is miserable.

Again, thanks for the kind words everyone. You don't know how much I appreciate it right now.

Quick update if anyone was wondering. My husband ended up having low grade pneumonia.  Sigh. I hate it when my anxiety is validated. Now I just need to recover from this mild heart attak. (Only half kidding)

Penny, since you have been experiencing actual panic attacks, I would suggest that you see a doctor and/or therapist.  I don't know how you feel about meds, but having something available in your cabinet for those truly urgent times can bring a sense of comfort.  I went through a long period of panic attacks and high anxiety stemming principally from a bully boss, but also from some family drama.  When I reached a peak of feeling so overloaded with anxiety and like I was going to have a breakdown if something didn't change fast, I went to see my doctor.  He got me going to talk therapy, started me on low-dose anxiety medication, and prescribed a single bottle of xanax and told me to take 1/2 or 1 pill if my anxiety became very overwhelming, like a panic attack.  The bully boss resigned couple months later, and I still have most of that same xanax bottle in the cabinet now.  It's nice to know that it's there if I really need it.  I hope these thoughts might be helpful to you.  Wishing you well and a quick recovery for your husband.

I understand it very well. It is known that stress makes all these reactions much worse. You are probably under quite an amount of stress now. I wish you strength.

Penny, if you haven't already found her, maybe check out Captain Awkward's blog. I find her funny (mostly because I'm not in those situations), but specifically, she has mental health problems of her own and has given some excellent advice to people about how to find help. I realize that it's scary, but I promise no one who really cares about you wants you to be worried and having panic attacks.

Hope your husband is feeling better, and that you don't catch it too.
