Sprint Changes
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:52:14 AM »
Until recently, we were on our son's phone plan. He went to Wireless Republic and we started getting the bills which led to researching out different plans and options. Like a lot of people, I really don't want to give up my iPhone. Due to my job, I finally caved when I was calling my dh and asking him to look up job related info while I was traveling. I also found texting a good way of keeping in contact with our son. In addition, I get a phone subsidy from work which helps.

I called Sprint about a question and found out in November we can go to a cheaper plan. It will be $75 for the two phones. Not as cheap as some of the other carriers, but we can keep our phones and there's no contract. Per the rep, there's four ways of going to the cheaper plan.

1. End of contract
2. 20 months left in the contract as they considered the subsidized phones paid for
3. Add a new line
4. Purchase a new phone

I know it's still not MMM, but every bit helps.

This is something that my wife and so are dealing with ATM. I have a family plan with Verizon with four phones (me, wife, mom and pop). I just cancelled mine with ETF (etf was cheaper than leaving phone on) and switched to Republic. Republic uses Sprint towers. I'm trying to get my wife to switch, but she is attached at the hip with her iPhone. A must have she states.

All I can suggest is next time your son is home, give his Moto a try.  I would almost guarantee 99% of the things you do on your iPhone you can do flawlessly on a droid, and some even better. Sell that iPhone you have to go towards the purchase of the Moto G.

I should also note that I used an iPhone 5S as my daily before switching to republic. My daily work phone is an iPhone 5C as well, so I'm very accustomed to iOS.

My dh thinks we need 4g/LTE and that's cheaper with Sprint vs. Wireless Republic and we won't have to buy new phones.

Virgin mobile is on Sprint network but again we'd have to buy new phones.

$75 for two phones really isn't a terrible plan if you guys utilize the plan.  There are cheaper options, but if you are happy with Sprint then stick around with them.  That's def much cheaper than my families current Verizon plan.  My statements were more towards the iPhone mentality which I'm trying to currently work with my wife on.  I've had numerous smartphones over the years (I used to run a tech blog) and for 99% of the consumer base out there, any platform (iOS, Android, Windows) will get the job done.  I too love the iPhone, but I suggest not limiting yourself just to the iPhone for future purchases.

Since you are currently on Sprint and own your Sprint iPhone you might want to look into Ting.  I'm not as familiar with Ting, but it comes as a recommended MVNO by a lot of users here.

Yeah, I'm okay with $75 for 2 phones, especially with my work subsidy, and glad their prices are going down toward the end of the contract. I will have to check out Ting though

I use Ting, and I really like it.  You can easily check out how much your bill will be from your current usage (https://ting.com/calculator).  I also brought my iPhone over from Sprint.

I switched to Republic, thoroughy love the plan and phone. Only thing is I cracked my phone's screen days after I got it. Cost to replace a Moto X screen: $200. Cost to replace iPhone screen: $50-60. Just a cost some people might not think about till it happens. There are other MVNOs to choose from where you can bring an iPhone, Ting for one. Depending on your data usage you might be able to save even more money, from the sound of it you'd probably end up well with your usage at zero.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
