Well, the squirrels living around mustachians may just be shit-out-of-luck. There may very well now be some competition on the acorn front.
I found this instructable on making acorn coffee. According to the author, who's actually more of a tea drinker like me, it's a delicious hot drink, especially with some milk. Looks like a lot of work (and this year it's too late, the squirrels already got all the acorns), but I may try it next year. Would love to know if someone makes it!

Sounds really neat! In Italy they make a coffee like drink from roasted barley, it is super good. Looks like there is only one company in the US importing it right now.

Huh. Always wondered if they were edible in some way. Now I know. They lost me though when they showed the bowl of how much they had made all together in one hour of work. :-/

But there's (AFAIK) no caffeine in acorns or barley, so what's the point?

As a healthy alternative to coffee when your pregnant, if marketed correctly, could make a mint.
At least with the Barley, and it does act like espresso so would also be a great decaf option. I use to work the 4am shift in a coffee shop, so after waking up with a couple of quad shots, the alternative later in the day would have been nice:)
