Good stuff in that video. Heard about this guy elsewhere in the forum but haven't looked at his stuff much. Curious if parts of his approach would help with family and work relationships.
Summary for others:
Rungs in his happiness ladder, from bottom to top:
Stuff
Experiences
Growth
Relationships
Appreciative attitude
I read another article recently, one dealing with money/stuff:
Everything you need to know about whether money makes you happy (80000hours.org)
It mentioned that the lottery-winner/paraplegic study was kind of weak, FYI.
Personally, I find that stuff can be very satisfying if I put some agency into it. My bedroom door is a door, but I installed it well, beveling the edges with a hand plane, and I feel good every time I pass by it. I admit he does add in some nuances about stuff, and maybe DIY has elements of growth, even appreciation.
I like that he doesn't just jump on the "stuff bad, but experiences good" bandwagon.
Having an appreciative attitude is actually pretty easy, but somehow also so easy to forget.
Thanks for the link.
