Being the entrepreneur that I am, this story inspires me, I can't wait to have little ones and hopefully encourage that kind of thinking.

Good for her.

700 rent on 12k purchase is a great ROI, depending on a few variables (any back taxes or liens needed to be paid off, since they bought at auction, and cost to fix up, since they said it was trashed).

Also, I laughed at the last picture (Willow + tenants).   Don't you think those tenants would be embarrassed that their landlord is a 14 year old girl?

Sounds like the mom really knows what she's doing though.  Many Realtors aren't actually doing real estate themselves, but her mom being smart enough to get a place, fix it, and rent it out is smart.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.

the entrepreneurial move to start taking the stuff and selling it on craigslist was really clever. The real estate thing makes me a complainypants and wish I were younger. I probably wouldn't have bought my first car if the alternative had been a house :)

What an awesome and inspiring story! A great start to her college fund, too.

In the UK this week there was a story about a 17 year old opening her own shop:

It's very inspiring to see these teenagers thinking about money and the future at such a young age!
