Some Canadians who plan to retire early

Early retirement article on La Presse with quotes from MMM & others. If you use Google translator it does a decent translation into English.

That was one of the better articles that I've read about ER. Thanks for posting it. It did a good job of describing the some of the activities that people were retiring to. I also liked that it emphasized that spending is based on values and that early retirees aren't depriving themselves just to escape from a job.

I also have to admit that I clicked through partly hoping to see translated versions of the word badassity, facepunch, and MMM (aka Monsieur Moustache d'Argent?).

I am surprised La Presse wrote that. Hopefully that will open up some eyes. Although he makes more money than me, Adam Jones (person in the article) has the same ambitions as me, same age...for a sec, I thought they writting about me,lol

C'est du badacite!

(damn, can't get accents on this computer...)

Also, cool to see the guy who understands that Montreal is actually a great place to retire. I think a lot of people look at the Quebec tax rate and give it a pass, but the quality of public life there makes it easy to have a great life for cheap, and the taxes are pretty low if you earn less.

Even better if you have kids, daycare is cheap compared to other provinces...the only downside is the hospital situation, you have to wait a long long time before a doctor sees you. You have to be basically on your deathbed for a doctor to see you quickly.

But even this maxes out the mustachian difference, at least in most cases. If you take good enough care of yourself that you don't need a lot of low-level medical maintenance, the doctor/hospital shortage is a downside that other people have to worry about more than you do.

I am not complaining, but I still remember when I needed my appendix removed, I had to wait 24 hours for the operation and they only gave me morphine when I was begging them to do something about the pain which was excruciating. Let's say, it wasn't a great experience, but I would still prefer having healthcare over having none at all.

Well, okay, that sounds pretty awful! I was thinking more of the "oh man, I have to wait a week for an appointment" level of "doctor shortage" that freaks many people out.
