Man Returns To Work After Vacation With Fresh, Reenergized Hatred For Job

http://www.theonion.com/article/man-returns-to-work-after-vacation-with-fresh-reen-30812

It's from a few years ago, but I don't recall it getting posted.

At some point we gotta compile all the MMM-ish Onion articles into one thread.  :)

I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Depressing and inspiring (to FIRE) at the same time!

That article sounds like me! Came back from Christmas and realized that I'm so close to FIRE (I could really go now if I wanted) that I have no more fucks to give. It's an interesting feeling knowing that any day the irritation could flip my switch, and I'm gone.

Then why are you staying? You obviously despise your job. I'm just curious, not being judgy or anything. I see lots of similar posts and always wonder what people are waiting for.

My job is not nearly as bad as some, but I wholeheartedly agree.  I often return from vacation with a terrible "vacation hangover" that can last a week or more.  The worst was my honeymoon,  it took me over a month to recover from a two week vacation.  Incredible what a week or two of life is like without fire drills, system created roadblocks, policy entanglements, and meetings is like.

Some other thoughts on the subject:

We're relocating to another state and I'm doing most of the work myself. It takes time to get all various pieces lined up (electricity, permits, etc.) Also, my wife's employer is going to let her telework but she's not ready to go yet. I'm making so much money that I might as well pad the stash a bit more. I don't want to get into anything heavy where we live now, because we're moving. It's a temporary dilemma.

I like teaching and love my kids, so thankfully this is not me.

Do love The Onion, though. Wish I had that kind of imagination.
