Rob Dumont - Better house then MMM
« on: October 22, 2015, 09:18:47 AM »
Mr. Dumont built his house in 1992 and it was the best insulated house in the world. In this article he provides a breakdown of his costs and savings from his house he constructed in 1992, real world results. His house is well studied and documented as its also a research project.

Please enjoy, its a different approach to home building. Maybe one day these houses will be the new standard.

Quick teaser is he doesn't have a natural gas furnace (or tank less water like MMM); in a city where that's considered to be the #1 heat source. He posts his cost breakdowns so people can review his findings and adjust for their own requirements.

"Auxiliary space heating equipment. With very energy efficient houses, the space heating demands are modest. For instance, in the author’s  family home, which is rather large with 1100 square feet (102 square metres) per floor and 3 floors (two storeys plus a full basement), the peak space heating requirement is 5.5 kilowatts (18,800 BTU/hour) at -34 C (-30 F).  For comparison purposes, the 4 electric elements on our range top are also rated at 5.5 kilowatts."
