Ochocinco
« on: March 01, 2023, 07:58:25 PM »
Turns out former NFL wide receiver Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson is something of a mustachian and discussed with Shannon Sharpe on Sharpe's youtube show (and podcast?) Club Shay Shay.

There's a condensed version of most of the money stuff here:

The whole interview has some range, but parts of it get deep into football. It's here:

"The best investment person is yourself. Do your homework. You don't need all these people."

He's an interesting guy. I remember the flashy, diva type wide receiver image that he portrayed. I had no idea that he literally lived in the stadium for the first part of his career because he saw having his own place as excessive waste.

That was super interesting. He doesn't care what others think and understands the value of money really well. I can't imagine how hard it is to keep your head on straight when you're a rising NFL star.

Thanks for sharing this!

I love how it ends, with Shannon saying that he still wants to be able to “fly private,” and Ochocinco saying, “I just fly Spirit.”

I'm happy the video clarifies how living in the stadium worked. I think of a stadium as being concrete and metal, not having a really nice lounge, locker room, spa.

I like at the 2-minute mark when he says, "Why did I buy a Ferrari? I'm Ocho," like I'm the Ferrari, and then talks about watches and says, "Why do I need a watch? Watch this: What time is it?" and he gets the time.

He also was fined seven times for $115,000 during his career for his touchdown celebrations. He knew he would get fined on most of those. I guess you could argue that was a marketing expense as it probably led to some opportunities and kept his name in the news.
