NFL star saves 100% of salary
« on: April 08, 2021, 11:20:49 AM »
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara recently revealed he's quite the saver.  He's spent nothing from his four years of salary in the NFL, living entirely off endorsement deals.  His new contract is worth up to $75 million so I suspect he may allow a few indulgences but will still leave the league with an incredible stash of investments to use for the remainder of his life.  Nice to see a story of a pro athlete that recognized the vulnerability of their earnings from the start and isn't going to be broke two years after they stop playing.

What a badass! Wonder what he's making from endorsements?

^Probably A LOT!

Still, with all the high profile stories about guys who blow all they earn and more, it's always nice to read about frugal guys who save for the future.

I worked with a young women who was engaged and then married to a college football playe (went to the wedding). We actually talked about this thing (sports figures may have a very short career, make bad investments). She was really upfront about how he made sure to leave school with a decent degree, and was planning on going into broadcasting when he couldn't play anymore. And even just talking about where she was going to live, and what kind of house, they both had good heads on their shoulders. He actually ended up playing pro ball for 16 years and retired a few years ago. Good for him! But basically he is an exception that proves the rule.

I think Gronk lives on high fives and Natty Lite.
