I saw this article posted on the "Bicycle Touring and Bikepacking" facebook group, and thought some folks here might appreciate it.

Basically, a (presumably single) engineer retires, sells all his stuff, and hits the road on epic bicycle tours. He rents a room for the odd times he's not on a tour.
For some time now I've been dreaming of biking to Alaska. And many other places. Definitely inspiration for ER ... Anyone here going on bike tours like this?

Sounds great. Very inspiring.
I'm a committed cyclist but an inexperienced tourer, but I am thinking thoughts about doing this (once it's finished):

I'm in melbourne, Australia, but I have a sister in Vancouver. So thinking of visiting and then one day telling her I'm going for a bit of a ride.

I've done quite a few tours, but at this point in my life if I were to retire now I'd get a camper van and travel with that instead.
This December I met an older man that has been bike touring for the past 5 years. It definitely is a great way to spend a retirement.

I tour regularly and lead bike tours locally as a volunteer. Quite the inexpensive and fun hobby.
