Mike and Lauren.com?
« on: October 08, 2014, 10:13:48 PM »
Just saw a video on You Tube and they mentioned the MMM website.  I haven't perused the site.  I liked the video so I'll check it out.

Anyone else seen/looked at their site?

I'm subscribed to them on youtube.  Not quite sure why, and nothing against them (I did subscribe) but I seem to enjoy reading about FIRE more than watching videos about it.

I'm not a fan of video clips.  I can read way faster than I can watch a video, so unless there's a transcript, or it comes REALLY highly recommended, I don't bother.

Based on the titles of them, it seems like some good content though, so if you like videos, that looks like it could be a good resource.

[Edit]  Forgot to mention this is Mike from mikeandlauren.

Thanks for the mention ViragoStache.  Yes, we've been MMM fans since Jacob passed the torch a few years ago.  I've always been a lurker on the forums, so hello everyone!

I think it's interesting people prefer to read FI content rather than watch it.   I was the same way myself until a year or two ago.  Then I started subscribing to other YouTube channels (more DIY stuff, not FI) and now I prefer video over written content.

One quick tip I use, if you click the gear icon on the bottom right of the player you can change the "speed" of the playback up to twice as fast.  I use that occasionally if people talk too slowly, or don't edit their videos short enough.

Great tip!  I listen to podcasts on 2x speed (and even then struggle with impatience sometimes), I didn't realize this was an option for YouTube clips. Thanks!  :D

This is my first post ever, and my love of Mike and Lauren has brought me out from being a long-term lurker.  I watched almost all their videos the other night after Nords mentioned them on another thread.  I'm always looking for streaming content to keep me occupied while I batch cook, fold laundry, etc.  Their content is great, but I really come back for their personalities.  I'd totally want to get a beer and hang out with them.

I have subscribed to them on youtube for a while. Loving it :) Wish they also would give out a podcast (maybe even just make the videos in to podcast format).

I have subscribed a little while back. It is really nice to finally see a youtube channel that focuses on early retirement and financial independence.

I like to listen to podcasts at faster speeds too, which I do...on my computer. I know how to convert files in audacity, but it's pretty slow so I usually don't bother and listen at regular speed on my mp3 player. Do you know a more efficient way to do this, or a mp3 player that has an option to listen at faster speeds without converting the files?

Most podcast apps have a way to do this.

The default iOS one has 0.5x, 1x, 1,5x, and 2x speeds, but there are third party iOS and android ones that do so as well, assuming you have a smartphone.
