Local Living
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:17:43 AM »
My Brother-in-law and his wife-to-be just completed one year of their local living project - only buying thing made/grown in their hoem province, or sourced used from within their province. It takes the 100-mile diet to the next level.

If you've got 6 minutes, you can listen to their radio intereview here http://www.cbc.ca/daybreaksouth/2013/01/16/kelowna-couple-finish-year-of-living-local/

Or you can read what little blog they did keep here

Good for them, that's a nice project. I'm too much of a wimp to try it myself (giving up European chocolate for a year? no thanks, heh) but it's great to see people doing this kind of thing and getting at least a little press coverage.

That's a great project. I will check out their blog.

I live in Brooklyn, so it would probably be cheating for me to do something like this. Living Local is very important to me and it's part of why I live where I do and happily pay the premium to do so. I go back and forth with how much of a commitment of time and money I'm willing to make, especially as I try to get my finances in order, but I do try to shop and buy local where I can.
