Title: Letter from my bank
Post by: Alternatepriorities on February 19, 2016, 04:13:33 PM
I received an invitation from my bank today that opened with the statement:

You've planned, you've worked hard, and now it's time to live the retirement you've always dreamed of.

They have my DoB on file so they're either adopting to meet the needs of mustachians planning early retirement, or my retirement account balances confused them… Hopefully it's the former and we're making some progress.

A good example of how companies are really trying to use data-driven/directed marketing.  What were they trying to sell you?

Retirement and estate planning services. All the photos are of typical retires. Dampens my hopes that they're adopting to mustachians a bit...

Big Data is a lot, well, bigger than most people realize. From your political world view to your favorite brand of toilet paper, nothing is too private and nothing is too trivial for data brokers to record and analyze.

I usually visit MMM in a different browser than I do my banking, but it's possible they got wind of my habits. Before discovering vanguard I had a decent size stash with this bank. Maybe they just miss the fees.

Love it!

I'm finding it so much more relaxing now I've moved to a different bank, so I don't get questioned about my future spending plans every time I go to bank a cheque or get change at my local bank.
