It's "America Saves Week"!

Apparently, some Americans aren't listening:

But one of the links in there goes to a hashtag #imsavingfor in which they have a contest where the winner gets $500. One of the tagged folks said "I'm saving for early retirement!" :-) Mustachian!

The US air force, and I assume the rest of the DoD, is running their "military saves" campaign this week.  I didn't realize it was a national thing.  They want us to sign some pledge that we're going to be awesome at saving and budgeting, and they track how many people have signed.  Of course, this being the military, everyone signs because we have to sign all kinds of stupid shit every day.  I'm sure, though, that all my peers are suddenly and radically frugal.

I'm always disconcerted by the MWR contractors that come and talk to us about "saving for retirement".  They're usually 60+ year old dudes spouting corporate mantra and can't answer any question beyond what they were taught.  No one else sees the irony in an older person working the grind talking about retirement... Rather than being retired.  *sigh*

*Ahem.*

I'm a 55-year-old dude who's financially independent and participates in spreading the campaign of Military Saves as well as MilCents.  I'm happy to answer any questions that your MWR contractors can't cover...

I agree that the Military Saves fervor can approach the levels of the Combined Federal Campaign.  But you know how people are always clamoring for more personal-finance education for military servicemembers & families?  That's a great source of it, and it's at the right price.
