Quote
In a PR stunt that aims to change the way we think about our retirement, young Australians are invited to handle up to $1 million in cold, hard cash at a secret location in Melbourne this morning.
The fun begins at 9am (AEDT), starting with a quick superannuation balance check, and a prediction of how much will be available down the track.
... Then it’s into the vault you go, where you’ll get to fondle stacks upon stacks of $50 bills.
... Psychologist Simon Kinsella said human beings were hardwired to avoid planning for the future, but that handling real cash could help close the “psychological gap”.

Interesting idea. At the very least it should get the young folks a little more excited about saving?

I read a magazine article about seeing their future faces helped people save. I never read the original scientific article.

Is it this article you're referring to? http://www.dangoldstein.com/papers/Hershfield_Goldstein_et_al_Increasing_Saving_Behavior_Age_Progressed_Renderings_Future_Self.pdf

I wonder how they make sure that no money leaves the vault. Do you think they count it after every person? I imagine you're in there with security, but anyone who's been to a magic show knows it would be very easy for a skilled person to leave with a few notes.
