That's pretty cool.  I'm glad the ranger he ran into was reasonable about the whole deal.  He easily could have just written him the ticket and moved on.  Instead, he took a little extra time so that he could still do his job while not being a dick about it.

Regardless, Suelo sounds like the type of guy who you could have a great conversation around a campfire with (or anywhere else - a campfire just would be my preference).

His book (The Many Who Quit Money) is an interesting read. He's been a pretty mixed up guy in his time. But who knows what will happen as he gets older.

It is a great article, and it kind of gives me hope for humanity that even in this day, a man can live with no money, no ID, essentially no contact with modern society.

However, his life is not for me.  He is intentionally isolating himself and avoiding contact with other humans.  I seek to do the opposite - I want increase my contacts with other interesting and insightful people.

Actually according to the book he has quite a lot of contact with other humans. He doesn't live with them all the time but he regularly visits the town (for dumpster diving if nothing else) and is involved in community ventures. He even works (just not for money) with things like shelters and community farms. He also is fairly in demand as a house sitter apparently.

Additionally he maintains a website (unfortunately with a love of multiple fonts/colours which makes it impossible for me to stand reading) and engages with people all over the world through that.

His life isn't for me either but I don't think he avoids contact with other humans. He's a bit of a guru and people apparently seek him out to spend time living with him.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
