Hockey Player retires Early
« on: July 12, 2013, 10:24:16 AM »
Sure, he made a ton in the last 10 years, but I think this is still Mustachian.  It doesn’t show his financials, so hopefully he does have enough to retire, and he isn’t spending everything unnecessarily.  But he gave up 70 Million in order to retire and return home early.

Jesus dude, a little spoiler would be appreciated in this situation. Don't worry, Penguins fans, it's nobody from Pittsburgh.

Not mentioned in the article you linked, but the speculation is that he's going to play in the Russian hockey league (KHL) and could make just as much or more money there.

I assumed he'd play there, but I figured he'd be making a lot less.  Usually players come to the US because it's more profitable.  I figured it was mustachian because he was giving up a ton of extra money for other priorities.

Great player, and even though I will forever hate the Devils, I will miss seeing him play.  Hopefully it works out for him in Russia (seems likely that it will . . . )

Take the numbers with a grain of salt considering it's SB Nation, but their guess is $15-20 million in the KHL (double his NHL pay).  KHL is desperate to get stars back to the motherland.

I hate the Devils, especially their old, dickhead of a goalie.

But even I think it's kind of messed up that he didn't say something earlier in the free agency period when the team could have worked harder to sign other players before other team snapped them up.

More money and less taxes.

Since he played in Jersey, he'll probably see the same number of fans at games.....

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
