http://q13fox.com/2016/06/01/teen-sells-newspapers-for-5-years-earns-enough-to-pay-off-college-before-he-even-starts/

From the article:
==============================
From age 12 to 17, King sold newspapers with one goal: earn enough to pay for his entire college education. And he did just that.

“When it came down to school, my mom didn’t have to come out of pocket to do anything or I didn’t have to take out any loans to go to school,” he told WHBQ.

He earned $200 every Sunday for five years straight and was just accepted into Tennessee State University.

The more meaningful thing is he is going to a school which is relatively inexpensive, though if he earned $200/week for 5 years he ended up saving about $50k total.

My middle daughter works at a coffee shop and had saved enough to pay for her university before starting her first year. She will only spend her tips, and does bank some of them when she deems that she has "too much money". We don't have "state" universities here, but she does attend a local university and lives at home so she doesn't need to cover her housing or food.

Would be really nice if he applied to and got some scholarships, and barely even had to crack into savings.
