"The Upside of Quitting" turns conventional wisdom on its head:

a very good one from them for sure, and an old one. I have refered this podcast to friends and family who were on the fence about quiting something.
-
Summary for those of us without ears?
-
The gist of it is that they look at quitting something -- a job, a relationship -- while analyzing sunk and opportunity costs from an economic perspective. Often people under-emphasize the upside of quitting (sometimes by over-emphasizing the sunk costs of those choices.) There are several interviews with famous "quitters" -- athletes, public figures, average people. The discuss the psychological implications and strategies for moving on.
The podcast is free and can be downloaded at the link I provided.

Sweet, thanks. Like I said, I lost my ears in the war so free podcasts just remind me of my loss.

Is this a pop culture reference? If so, I'm not familiar with it. Please let me in on it.

To me it's always been a pretty common trope, but this is the best I could come up with in terms of unassailable pop-culture authority:

-
My favorite version of this trope - after dragoncar's - is the Freedom episode of Futurama (S5E03?), with the lawyer who defends Zoidberg.
On topic, there's been a lot of good quitting literature lately.
The Dip, by Seth Godin, is a good example:
