Funny how much of religion's message is about love and living simply, but those teachings don't get the big media play...

(...says the atheist who doesn't expect all the wisdom to come from his "team"). :-)

Nice piece!

I just finished reading a teen-girl trilogy called Matched set in one of those dystopian totalitarian societies. And one of the ways they kept control was making sure that no one knew how to produce their own food. Planting, tending, harvesting, and cooking were all performed by different sets of people, and then each person's food arrived in a foil tray every day.

Catholicism used to make a big deal over poverty's virtues back in the day. It's obvious the word didn't have the same baggage then as it does now.
