Blog Recommendation: 1500Days
« on: June 23, 2014, 03:01:19 PM »
Ran across this blog a few weeks ago, and figured it'll resonate with quite a few of you: http://www.1500days.com/

I actually went back through their archives from the last year and 1/2 and sent the most interesting sounding articles to my read it later list, and ended up reading about 75 of their articles over the last two days.  Author is semi-Mustachian (reads and refers to MMM at times), and writes about personal finance quite a bit.  His wife also writes sometimes.

This is my favorite post of theirs:
http://www.1500days.com/enough/

Here is their first (introduction) post:
http://www.1500days.com/start-here/

This "Death by Retirement" two-parter is pretty good food for thought for an early retiree:
http://www.1500days.com/death-by-retirement/
http://www.1500days.com/death-by-retirement-part-2/

They also have some pretty good Warren Buffet Stuff, such as these posts:
http://www.1500days.com/required-reading-warren-buffett-wisdom-in-the-annual-letter/
http://www.1500days.com/my-day-with-warren-buffett-part-1/
http://www.1500days.com/my-weekend-with-warren-buffett-part-2/
http://www.1500days.com/my-weekend-with-warren-buffett-part-3/
http://www.1500days.com/warren-buffett-wisdom/
http://www.1500days.com/berkshire-meeting-warren-buffett-and-charlie-munger-speak/

They also interview other bloggers fairly regularly.  Most of them I've never heard of, but they did do the Planting our Pennies folks and the MadFIentist.

They also have a pretty cool Ask the Readers ongoing feature, and they ask some decent questions that are fun to read the answers to.

If you just read one post, read that "Enough" one, above.  But the whole blog is worth checking out.

I also enjoy the PoP blog. :)

That's one I actually haven't read, but I do enjoy a lot of their comments on this forum, so I may have to check it out next.

The 1500Days one actually led me to one called FI Fighter, which I'm now in the middle of.

I always like to go back to the beginning of a blog and read every post if it's amazing (like MMM, Lacking Ambition, JLCollins, MadFIentist) and if it's pretty good then I'll at least go through the archives from the beginning and add all the articles to my read it later list with interesting sounding headlines (thus why I read about 75 of 1500Days when they have a few hundred - I skipped a lot of the interviews with bloggers I had never heard of, as well as a bunch of "rants" about stuff - too negative for me).

Anyways, I added about 175(!) articles of FI Fighter to my list yesterday, so that'll take me a day or two to get through, then maybe I'll check out PoP.  Thanks for the recommendation!

I actually really enjoy Fi Fighter's blog as well - haha.

I do the same method - I read a couple random articles in the beginning and the about. If I'm intrigued, I go to the beginning and read through everything.

Some of the rants are pretty funny, but they are really similar to what already happens in the Antimustachian Wall of Shame and Comedy subforum.

Brave New Life and Dividend Mantra are pretty good to me as well. BNL hit his goals to retire so the blog has been a little slower lately, but I can't hate on him for that at all - haha.

Let me know if you got any good suggestions to share as well? I also read Root of Good and Done By Forty.

I have read all of BNL.  I don't read anyone with "Dividend" in the name.

Root of Good is one I just added, but haven't delved into the archives yet.  I'll have to evaluate.

There's a few with 40 in the name (done by 40, Retire by 40, etc.), and I can never recall the difference. Though the author of one of them (Joe) was at Camp Mustache and I met him a month ago, and he was a really great guy.

After reading about 50 or so of the 170 FI Fighter's posts, I can pretty safely say that it won't make my cut.  I'll finish it out, but not stick around.  EDIT: I was wrong, he stuck around on my RSS feed.  Would recommend.  :)

Most of the other blogs I read are travel blogs (Life after Liquidity, Drive Nacho Drive, Bumfuzzle, etc.)
