I believe it. Commuting leaves you drained and wanting to stay home - which isn't what your more local spouse may be in the mood to do. I'm sure it gets harder with kids too - as the local spouse must take care of any rides/issues that can only be dealt with in person.

Hmmm . . . the first three years of our marriage, we had one car and lived 30 miles from work /school.  Obviously, we rode in together every morning.  I have nothing but happy memories of those rides.  Lots of time to talk.
