What American dream costs $130,000 as stated?  And how is it that the median American family's annual costs at $7k greater than than median American family's income?

A moderate cost grocery plan for family of 4 is over $1000 per month? WTF?  I eat like a king and we don't spend half that (for two of us).

30% in taxes?  I find that hard to believe.  I'll try to find the model they reference by Citizens for Tax Justice.

EDIT: The article says the American dream is achieving success and providing better opportunities for your children.  Then it goes on to say that it will cost you $11,000/year to operate your SUV.  wtf.

The key phrase in that article seems to be:  "An analysis by USA TODAY shows that..."

They should put 'analysis' in quotes.

My wife made the perfect comment: "That's the Americans' American Dream." She is a naturalized citizen from Mexico. Her point was that new immigrants have a much more modest (and attainable) American dream. In the eyes of a new immigrant, born and raised Americans have outsized expectations for life from a material perspective. I agree and I think that is sort of the point of mustachianism.

That is one thing I love about my job as an attorney for immigrants, they are usually much more grounded and keep me grounded as well.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
