I've been a bogelhead for a while. every extra savings I have, i put it in vanguard.

Yeah, thanks for sharing.

It took me some time to realize that, yes, those small savings do add up. 50 on coffee and 100 on lunches per month cannot be ignored. Not just in absolute terms, but once I started paying attention to the small savings, I also saw the potential of that monthly 150 in a savings or investment account.

My favorite quote from the article: "And while returns are out of investors' control, saving diligently and controlling costs aren't."

Indeed!  It's astonishing how much of a difference even an extra $100/month to savings can make.  It can take YEARS off your working life.  I'm using YNAB now to try to track my spending on "little things" like food bought while at work.
