Twitter saga - A Mustachian reminder
« on: November 29, 2022, 07:56:36 AM »
This whole Twitter saga is a great reminder to me about the benefits of Mustachianism and having FU money. A great workplace, people loved working there, loved the people they worked with, great benefits (catered lunches, gyms, laundry etc), all came to a screeching halt and reversing at warp speed (some people's paychecks are delayed now).

By all counts Twitter seems like a completed hellhole now. Those with FU money could say FU to all the BS that Chief Twit Elon wants to put them through, walk away from the dumpster fire and hopefully land decent jobs elsewhere.

Amen! I feel bad for all twitter employees. So many lives disrupted.

My hope is that many of them made big chunk of change when Elon the sociopath-jerk paid $54 dollars a share for the company for all the RSUs that were vested.

I was reading an article about the paychecks that didn't come in time for Europe and it mentioned lots of people having to call their mortgage companies to avoid being overdrawn. The hopefully interpretation is that they keep lean checking accounts with all their money going into savings investments. The less hopefully is that a lot of these folks really are living paycheck to paycheck.

I am grateful to not personally be in that situation and very sorry imagining the stress and worry of the people who are.

I had a paycheck bounce once, years ago, when the owner of the restaurant where I worked went bankrupt. My small local bank offered to waive any overdraft fees, which didn't end up being necessary. I eventually got the money I was owed from the employer too.

There have been a few anecdotal reports in the news that a disproportionate number of the workers who have stayed have visas connected to their Twitter employment.  One interpretation is that they're basically a captive workforce, which seems like a real abuse of our immigration system.

As a note, Amazon and Meta have each announced layoffs of more people than Twitter even had employed at their peak.  The whole "Amazon drivers peeing in jars" thing didn't sound too good for them either.

Not just layoffs. Amazon is now pushing back new hire's start dates by months.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
