He didn't take out loans or borrow money from parents either, he's on the right track.

I like it!

"It's about setting your mind to it, and that's what scares people." So true for so many things.

Also, the kid needs to invest $2 in some safety glasses! Tisk tisk.

Don't think it makes him a homeowner, though, any more than buying a manufactured travel trailer or RV makes you a homeowner.   His parents are nice to allow him to park it on their property - another cost that a real homeowner would have.  (In my case, the land my house is on is worth quite a bit more than the house itself.)  I also wonder about sewer & water...

Water is from a hose connected to his folks' spigot, the toilet is a composting one.  I guess the grey water just runs to the yard, which isn't really that big of a deal.

This guy is pretty cool. His name is Austin, he's 19 now and he is going to get a degree in Architecture. He works part time around his school with Tumbleweed Tiny Houses. I just accepted a job with them as the in-house architect (starting in March 2013) and I'm really looking forward to getting to know Austin a little bit better. :-) I wish I had known about tiny houses or Tumbleweed more than a decade ago when I was in high school.
