"Couples who save together, stay together"
« on: August 13, 2013, 11:24:59 PM »
I don't usually read Elle Magazine (I found this article through a series of links from other articles) but I thought it was good.  I could have also put it in a few other categories, so feel free to move this, if you think it belongs somewhere else mods. :)

The thing I can't wrap my head around is the amount of consumer debt American's are shouldering. According to the article when the recession of 2008 hit American's had  988 billion dollars in commercial debt...I checked population stats for 2008...for a population of 305  million.

A friend of mine has a 3 BR house (with 7 TVs), 4 smartphones (1 for each family member), 2 or 3 cars, at least 2 ATVs, and a boat.  The subject of wills came up one day, and I asked her if she and her husband had a will.  She said no, and I asked her what would happen to all of her stuff (if she and her husband met an early demise).  She responded by saying that they don't own any of it.  Gahhhhhh!!!!!  So that's an example of that nasty consumer debt.  Makes me nauseous!

I shouldn't be surprised hearing a story like this, I'm sure it is all to common - I just don't know how people can sleep at night living like that. I am so glad my SO and I are the "Saves together" happy couple :)

Oh wow (excitement)!  there is a publication called: "Journal of Couple & Relationship Therapy: Innovations in Clinical and Educational Interventions"*

Oh wow (disappointment)! it's $165 an issue.

Check with the nearest university library. Most have community memberships available, often for free, and they may have a subscription (most likely electronic if so). For that journal, your odds are much better at a school that offers counseling degrees.

That's a great idea!  Thanks for sharing that, Rural.
