Project Fi Referral Thread
« on: September 25, 2017, 01:49:55 PM »
Trying to tread lightly here, but I see Ting has a 12 page referral thread going so far.

Thought I'd start one for Google's Project Fi service (couldn't find one using the search, so I apologize if I'm duplicating anything!).  I've used Project Fi for about 10 months and haven't had any issues.  I average about ~$33/month cell phone bill and that's with unlimited talk & text.  About to use the international service for the first time next week as well.

It's a pretty simple set up - $20/month for unlimited talk & text, data @ $10/GB after that.  No slowing of data, no caps, etc.  Project Fi taps into the T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular networks - whichever one is strongest where you are is what Project Fi will switch to.

Any other Fi users, feel free to post your referral link or let us know how you've enjoyed the service.

Why not! https://g.co/fi/r/VAW0PV

I love Fi. My average bill each month is under $20 (I'm on a group plan so it's $15 base for talk/text). I was previously on a prepaid T-Mobile plan for $30/month so switching to Fi isn't really saving me a ton, but it adds the Sprint and USCellular service areas on top of what I had with T-Mobile so coverage is way better in my area at least.

I'll bite:

https://g.co/fi/r/UUD5AV

My average bill is about $28 a month.  Helps being surrounded by WiFi all the time.  And it's also helped me to disconnect.  When I'm not on WiFi, I leave the data off unless I need something.  I don't sit there browsing non stop.  My fiance will be joining my shortly.  Our combined bill should be roughly half what one of us was paying alone.  It's crazy.  And they just announced newer cheaper Android One Moto X4 for those who don't want to pay for the more expensive phones.  That'll pay itself off in savings in no time.

This is a good call - who wants to join my "family?" Haha.

For me it was a toss up between this and a T-Mobile plan, so far this has been working out great, other than one month of high data costing me an extra $15. International travel was seamless.

My Code is:  https://g.co/fi/r/AVK3D9

You will receive $20 credit after 30 days.  I average between $24 - 28 / month.  I have also done a lot of referrals and that has gotten me $20 credit (person signing up and you get $20) and has kept the bill down to close to nothing for a few months.  Never have a problem with the service and I travel all over the United States.  Thanks

About to use the international service for the first time next week as well.

Forgot to update - international service worked great.  Took about two minutes to switch over and then it was like using it at home.

After 30 days you will get $20 Fi credit.

I have used the service for about a year, have average monthly bill about $26-28. Also pretty cheap for international calls.

I love google fi, I'm on wifi most of the time, when I'm not, I want good service. Works perfect for me, better coverage than I remember having with Sprint, Tmobile or Verizon.

I've used the service for close to a year and a half in Denver. I have data saver on and pretty much pay between $27 - $32 a month. I recommend it for those that don't really use data!

Thanks for the feedback on international use.  I was curious how well that works.  I've been on Project Fi for almost a year and my phone bill is much lower than before - and that includes paying for the phone!  It's a great option for people who are on wifi most of the time.  I actually told my sister and her husband not to switch because they are terrible about not using wifi and the data costs would've eaten them alive.

Another frugal tidbit for those considering...  When you buy a Project Fi phone, you can get it financed interest free.   I easily could have paid upfront for my phone but I couldn't pass on a free loan.

Here's my referral code and thanks in advance to anyone who uses it:  https://g.co/fi/r/R7R3JC

$20 credit for both of us...

I use it in Dayton, OH and had a ton of call drops with my last phone (Nexus 6P) but with my new phone (moto x4) I get great service.  I'm assuming it was just due to the phone antenna or something.  I also used it in Canada and Australia for texting and data... worked like a charm!

Hey! 6 mo. ago I've used some else coupon here when I was singing-up. No regrets so far, but you have to keep an eye on the data used since there is no cap.

Here is my referral code:

I turn mobile data off unless I absolutely need it (looking up directions, for example).  The bulk of my time is spent at home and at work - both have WiFi.  I've started downloading podcasts ahead of time to listen to.  I've gotten my monthly data usage down below 0.3 GB the last 4-5 months.  My highest bill in the last 6 months or so was like $26 I think.

I am still on the Nexus 5X, though.  It's about time for the boot loop to rear its ugly head, so I'm starting to research the next phone.  I think the Pixel 3 is due out in October, so I could go super new with that or see what the Pixel 2 price drops to.

I had a 5x bootloop on me maybe six months ago, and sent it to LG to fix (I think they extended the warranty to 3 years or something as part of a class-action lawsuit). The minute I got it back from LG I traded it in to Fi for the moto x4. It's a mid-level phone but it feels like a pretty clear upgrade from the 5x, and was only like $150 after the trade-in. It's nothing fancy but it does what I need.

One of the benefits of the x4 is a slot for an SD card, which makes caching everything offline waaaaay easier so I can keep my data use really low. I threw in a 64gb sd card and now I have offline google maps for most of my state, a shitload of cached music, and all my podcasts sync and download when I'm on wifi.

I've had Project Fi over a year now and love it. I've used it in Croatia, Mexico, Canada, and Western Europe and it's been totally seamless. Having Google Maps for navigation in Croatia was especially useful and entertaining (lots of very long street names to pronounce). I have the Moto x4 and love it -- takes amazing pics and I have never had trouble getting reception.

Do you know if any other Fi-eligible phones have this feature available?

I know the Pixels don't, but I believe they have higher base-storage levels (up to 128gb I think) available. Looks like the new Moto and LG Fi-compatible phones that were released a couple months ago do have SD card capabilities.

I've been using it in California for about 8 months and I'm happy.  I had Verizon and there is one solid deadspot on my way home from work but its not emblazoned in my memory so I try not to be on the phone then.

https://g.co/fi/r/CA49WF

I've also used it internationally and LOVE the flexiblity.  I'll take one deadspot for $50/month less than Verizon.
